Happy May Day and {inter}National Scrapbooking Day

I can hardly believe it’s already May 1, I mean really, wow the days are getting away from me. We have been so very busy lately with Jalen’s end of the year projects, trying to find a school for Jordan for next year and all these other projects floating around. Crazy with a capital C around here. Let me share with you some scrappy projects from the past few weeks.

It was finally my turn to issue a scrappy challenge over at Two Peas. My challenge, which closes on Tuesday, is to document a day in your life. It can be as extensive or brief as you like. I used my pictures from last week Monday’s a week in the life to document an ordinary day in our life. and I know, grammatically it should probably be a day in our lives, but really, it seems as though there is only one life and we all share it- but I digress. I started with the morning coffee, followed through breakfast, lunches, drive time, my work, my lunch, pick ups, activities, dinner and ended with bedtime. I love these coordinated bright papers by Tricia Chapman, and kept it pretty simple by using a grid pattern with frames by Jen Martakis.

also from last week, I whipped up a few quick and easy hybrid cards with the help of Deena Rutter’s digital die cut files and papers from Carina Gardner of DHD.

and last little scrappy bit to share, I whipped up this little layout using goodies from Miss Mint’s latest releases over at Peppermint Creative.

and I wanted to share this card that I got in the mail. I have a pal Tina, who is from Hawaii but lives in Washington. We “met” after Noel took Flat Joscie for a visit to her LSS. Tina came by my blog and we’ve been online pals ever since. On her last trip home, we were able to hook up for a craft-mance, as her DH called it. hee hee! Tina, FabuLisa and I hit a few shops and enjoyed counter burgers together, it was a great estrogen-fest! But anyway. She won a give away on my blog a while back and sent me this stunningly gorgeous card. I LOVE IT! check it, isn’t she awesome?!

I had a 3 projects featured in the current ready, set, create ezine. that was pretty cool! :)

I have a new tutorial up on Miss Mint’s blog… I made a halloween minibook using my new Stampin’ Up! curvy label (top note) sizzix die. LOVE it!

Flat Joscie had a great time with my friend Stephanie! read about her visit on Stephanie’s blog…

I was so excited to see that she not only had a great time hanging out with Stephanie and her family, she also got to meet Ali Davis and Cathy Zielske! :)

I made the slide show over at OLW with my He’s a KEEPer layout, woot woot! :)

Possibly the most exciting news lately…. are you ready? I got an email from Creating Keepsakes! They are going to use a project of mine in the February Issue! I am SO THRILLED! woo hoo!

I got some new digi goodies from Karla Dudley this week! They are super hot. I LOVE ‘em and you can get them on Thursday. You’re going to want it! :)

I also finished my week in the life project! Finally. and I love it!

I used Karla Dudley’s word brushes for the days of the week and dots: Date a Star Kit. number brushes: Sweet Baby Brushes. I used Making Memories Ella paper (orange dots), Making Memories brads. Quickutz bottle cap dies to cut the felt shapes, Studio numbers. My trusty sewing Machine and red thread. mini pompom trim. Red Chalk ink, circle punches in 1″ and 1.25″, foam dots, corner rounder, HP Matte Photo Paper, PSE 6. Stampin’ Up! cardstock. Baseball card pages and 8.5×11 pages. I still need to get a new album to hold it all, so for now it’s on binder rings.

Day 7 of documenting my week…

Sunday marked the seventh day in my week long project. It was a great week to document with a homecoming and so many exciting and normal events. I only wish I didn’t have a cold because my pictures really were lacking the last few days. I am sad that I missed Church on Sunday because it really is a special part of the week to re-energize and to prepare to go back into the world. Every first Sunday of the Month the church hosts breakfast and the Samoan Congregation meets with the English congregation for Communion. Troy had duty on Saturday which meant he had to go to the ship on Saturday and sleep over on the ship and came home on Sunday. I unloaded the dishes he washed early on Saturday…

Jordan requested sweet sweet pickles for dinner. and white with bread. I knew (but Troy didn't) that meant tuna sandwiches and sweet pickles. How did I accidentally buy a can of tuna packed in vegetable oil? Gross. does anyone actually buy that intentionally?! Luckily we had one packed in water. Jalen and I had yes, more cup o noodles.

Last night when Troy opened the last can of tuna, I started my new grocery list. Tuna, Mayonnaise…. and Jordan came over to ask what I was writing. I say it’s a grocery list. We need these things from the store: Tuna and Mayonnaise. What else do we need Jordan? He says,”Fruit Rolla (fruit rollups)” I had to giggle and I added it to the list. I don’t usually buy fruit snacks and fruit rollups because they are bad for their teeth and so sticky and full of artificial dyes and other things. Yes I consume artificial colors and sweeteners in my own food and drink, but try not to pass that on to the little ones. anyway. when he asks for items we don’t have i usually say, sorry we don’t have any, we’ll have to get some from the store. this is why I cracked up so hard when he wanted it added to the list.

Since I did not leave the house since Friday… I missed a chance to snap a shot of the gas station. Troy txted me to say 3.99 gas on saturday when he went to work. I got this shot today to add to the series.

also from today. we planned to go to see wall-e out at the Kapolei theaters at noon today, but got out on the free way and there must’ve been an accident or construction or something. traffic was bad, so we got off and hit Igor at Pearl Highlands movie theater instead. Another good choice. It cost way more than the $1 theater. This shot was the parking lot at the theater…

We’re back at home this afternoon and Troy has taken Jordan up to a nap and Jalen is working on a few way over due thank you notes. I hope I can warm up some coffee and get some scrap going on…
For any of you PS users… where does the wow plastic layer effect come from? Does it come with the program? I tried to google it, but got a bunch of ridiculous subjects like ‘wow plastic surgery costs a lot’… anyway, I was playing in PSE last night and I accidentally erased the clear plastic effect. the best one of all. I didn’t know the little trash can icon deleted the effect from the pallette. I thought it removed the effect from the item. ugh. I tried to “repair” my pse installation and that was another FAIL. lame-y lamington. anyway, I really am going to get my scrap on now. by the way, my boys are out of school this week for fall break, can you believe it? Year round school earns you weird vacation days. Hope you’re all doing well. Love love and blog you later!

Day 5- running errands

we had to go to Sam’s Club to return an item this morning. On the way back from Sam’s Club, we noticed the carrier was leaving. We hurried down to Hickam Officer’s Club at the end of the path (the opposite side from where Jordan and I had a picnic lunch) and waited for the carrier to drive by.

some sort of ray… there was also a turtle that surfaced twice while we were sitting there, but I missed it both times. comically, I have the Turtle shaped wake where it went down.

here it comes!

You know, they are “manning the rails” aka standing all around the edge of the ship… but there are not actual rails. so the paranoid part of me wants to yell, ” Be careful, Don’t fall off!” Troy thinks this is hilarious. He says, don’t worry, there’s a net if they fall…

the sun was just at the right part in the sky… I say look at the rays all around me!

we returned the weed whacker to self help and we also went to the bank to make a deposit, i thought it wise not to take pictures of the bank. then we switched drivers because I really was not feeling well. Troy is driving to pick up Jordan from school. I get out to pay tuition for Oct, pick up his pizza lunch and then wait for him in the drive through.

here he is saying, ” look mom, I made a smoke detector!” very nice honey, where is the other eye? “I don’t know” It’s okay, believe it or not, mommy has a lot of googly eyes at home. They have been learning fire safety at school… Every once in a while he will say something like, “if there’s smoke, you crawl~”

Friday means Pizza Friday in our household. The school the boys go to does not have a cafeteria, so I make lunches for Jalen. However, on Fridays, the PTO has Pizza delivered to the school and for $4 each child can have a cheese personal pan pizza, a pudding, 2 mini carrots and a juice box. This year was the first year they have offered the service to children who leave before lunch (pre-school, pre-k and Kindergarten). So I order lunches for both boys on every friday.

Picking up Jalen from school… he spies me leaning out the window with the camera. He says, hey, Spy!

I worked on a cute hybrid halloween project last night! :) I’ll share it when I can…

After the movie, we got in some time watching an old japanese game show called challengers of fire on channel 9. It was made in the late 90s and it’s in Japanese, subtitled into English. We usually watch every Friday night. we watched last night and I was ready to fall asleep (not feeling well) so Troy put the boys to bed. I am still not feeling very well today and Troy has duty (he has to go to the ship and sleep over, he’ll come home tomorrow). The boys are watching Star Wars Episode 5 right now… and I am about to join them. I hope you’re all having a great day!

On day three of my journey to document a week in our lives… we had a homecoming, lunch with a king, a movie treat, a cupcake shop and a bedtime story.

Gas came down 5 cents since Monday!

we went to the dollar theater for the first time last night and saw Kung Fu Panda… I got some other shots inside the theater, scroll down to the gallery and click to see them larger. Possibly the most memorable part of the night, some man came in a sat directly in front of me… and jordan wanted to sit in my lap… then leaned up on the seat and says, “Who’s that man? What’s your name?” I had to tell him, we don’t bother people in the movies…

after the movie we stopped in at the cupcake shop… there are more pics in the gallery on the bottom. the boys each got a fire truck cookie. i got a bite of jordan’s and it was GOOOD!

I was blown away by the beauty of the moon when we came out of the theater. awesome. I wish I would have had my other lens… but I pretty much walk around with my 50mm all the time. more shots in the gallery.

and in case my geekiness/nerdiness ever comes into question… when I saw this license plate in the parking structure, I immediately thought feed.

BIG eye, day two, homecoming day…

Good Morning. 3:27am in the morning to be exact. Have you heard the term big eye? If you’re a RickandBubba fan you already know, but for the rest of the world… Big eye is what happens the night before a big event… when you can’t fall asleep, or you go to sleep but can’t stay asleep. I woke up at 1:15am. I tried to go back to sleep but to no avail. after 45 minutes of laying in bed, i finally got up.

Yesterday I was caught up in the homecoming preparations/impending power outtage. I woke up at 5:45 and got up to my coffee, hot and ready!

Troy’s job in the Navy is a Systems Test Officer, abbreviated STO, sounds like stow. this is a sign i made to hold on the pier. it’s water color… the scallops are homemade with my paper gator.

I absolutely love Karla Dudley’s hand drawn brushes… I used the “thankful” brush from the Thankful brushes set. I imported it into the silhouette software and cut it out of red vinyl and mounted it over the other words cut out of brown vinyl. I am so happy with the way it came out!

So anyway, it’s now 4:19 am and I need to get in the shower and get dressed and ready for 9am homecoming. be on the lookout for more pictures :) Thanks to you all who have lent your prayers and positive thoughts for Troy’s safety, we appreciate it. I know he was only gone a short time, and for that we are thankful. But truthfully life on the ship can be dangerous and isolated so prayers are always a good thing. Love Love and blog you later!

a week in the life…

I have decided to jump in a participate in the ali edwards week in the life project. Thanks to chrispea, ;)

So the basic idea is to carry your camera around with you and get snapshots of your daily life. My day today was a busy one. You may already know that I LOVE mondays. The boys are back in school and for the first time in a few days I can get some uninterrupted productive time in. TOday’s plan of action was cleaning up. Troy’s coming home on Wednesday Morning and there is another scheduled power outtage on Tuesday… so I continued on with the never ending laundry… and vacuuming and rearranging and and and. I was very productive today. lets start and the beginning:

So, yep, power outtage tomorrow, hopefully that’ll be quick. I get so weird with no power. also the last power outtage led to some weirdness with our alarm system, so i had to call the alarm company to find out how to fix it *that’s the 888 number on my sketch page. Troy told me he’s really ready to come home already and he spent the day reading the blog and the comments. He says thanks to all you lovely ladies who stop by and leave comments and for keeping them in your prayers. Only a little longer, still praying for a safe homecoming.
