This past month’s card theme was movie quotes. You know I’ve been obsessed with balloons since we saw UP… and though I wanted to quote Dug, that oh so lovable dog, it didn’t quite fit in my mind with the balloon pics I wanted to use. So i used a quote from Ellie’s scrapbook to Mr Fredrickson.

and I made a card for the hostess Allie:

My bottom camera is a Kodak Duaflex IV. (click the picture for a larger view)  The viewfinder in the duaflex is a large square bubble on the top of the camera.  It is designed to be held around your hip level and it “auto focuses” on items about 5 feet away.  When looking through the viewfinder, everything is reversed, words will be backwards and framing the shot can be tricky, but eventually you can figure it out.

I use my 105mm macro lens on my canon 40D to shoot the digital shot through the viewfinder.  I learned from the tutorial to lay the camera on a table and move your camera as close as you could to get 1. a clear shot and  2. the full viewfinder in your frame.  Measure this distance and then construct a device for blocking out excess light.  I originally used large sheets of cardstock, but then went back and rebuilt it with black illustration board.

I cut out slots to accomodate the front lenses and for the side knobs.  I used duct tape to join the pieces together.

when you take the picture with your digital camera, it comes out looking like this:

Then you crop it in photoshop and voila a square ttv shot.

We had our lunch, Jordan and I shared some char siu bao (Manapua) and rice cake, while Troy and Jalen had Korean food.

for the red challenge: both of these shots were inside the Williams Sonoma Store. I was struck by the candy apple red finish and glass bowl!

and this i found utterly comical. would you really wear an apron with a pig on it? hee hee! this is a mannequin in the same store.

and on Sunday, we got to go to a FREE sneak peek on the Marine Base over in Kaneohe. I’ve had that note on a post-it for about a month now, reminding me.  After church on Sunday, we drove over to Kaneohe to get in with 850+ Harry Potter Fans and watch The Half Blood Prince.  We got our seats around noon and had a two hour wait.  No electronic devices allowed inside the theater. No cell phones, no ds, no cameras etc.  They even had a cell phone check, like a coat check, only crazier~!

the movie started at 2 and went for almost 3 hours. I will not spoil anything for anyone, I will just say, it was very nice and familiar. To see the faces of our favorite characters, a little more grown up, and wonderful adventure.  and I loved that they used some of the same music.  You see, we are the type of nerds to buy soundtracks from our favorites like star wars, indiana jones and harry potter and we listen on the ipod in the car. so when the music played in the movie, we all just grinned from ear to ear.  It was a great movie and I can’t wait to watch it again!

before the movie, during the two hour wait, they did Harry Potter Trivia and Jalen answered a tough question (name the four houses and their mascots) and won mini golf and movie vouchers! I was so proud that he answered the question over the mic so well!

Today we went out shopping for school supplies, and I am so glad and proud and relieved to say, we’re done. We checked everything off the list, including and ukulele ;)  I have to say I was so proud of the boys for behaving so well (we’re all human and not always this lucky) while we ate our lunch, two older ladies came by and complimented the boys for being so well behaved. Yay for them making good choices!  we even celebrated with icees at target when the last bit was completed.

took a quick snack break…

Ever since we went to see the movie Up last week I’ve been wanting to go buy some balloons.  Since we had time to stop off at the craft store on Wednesday, we picked up 10 latex balloons.  It was fun when they asked if it was some one’s birthday to be able to say, nope, just buying them for fun! (and pictures of course)  Of course, had I thought about the wind outside… I might have thought of an indoors photo location, or waiting for another day… but no, I carried those balloons out to the car and we picked up lunch and headed down to the beach at Hickam… We picnicked and then took a quick photo op with the balloons on the beach.  I also took the opportunity for a few ttv shots too. I really enjoy doing both varieties.

here is the skirt I sewed. It’s not a very flattering shot I’m afraid, but I’m putting my vanity aside to show the skirt. ;)

I am so happy with it.  My only problem was it took so much work to get it done, although I enjoyed the process, I kept thinking, I have projects to scrap!

And not only was I distracted with crochet, I also got some legos and jewelry findings and put together some lego jewelry.  I’ll tell you, I saw this idea for the lego earrings on etsy and was instantly smitten.  after all, lego has consumed our household.  but I wanted something more than just a pair of earrings. I tend to go a little overboard on somethings, you may have noticed.  I think it’s a touch of OCD, but again, I digress.  I ordered the goodies and put them together… and I present Lego earrings:

I have lots of colors of those round legos to swap out… and while I was at it, I made two more pair of lego earrings (if they strike your fancy… let me know, we can negotiate an arrangement)

i like these, the clear ones remind me of toy lover’s diamonds…

and of course, I had to make a bracelet to go with my earrings…(you can see it in the scarf picture up there too)

and as if that were not enough distraction… I have been fascinated with TTV (through the viewfinder) pictures since I first saw them on Tara Whitney’s blog last year.  It’s when you take a picture through the viewfinder of another camera. it adds a cool black frame, dust, texture etc. Troy asked me, “…and why do you want to do this?”  I say, because it’s cool, that’s why. and that’s good enough reason for me.  well, I hadn’t actually tried it, just played a little with fake ttv using frames online and photoshop.  but a few weeks ago, I saw a tutorial online about creating a ttv device and it said the viewfinder cameras were readily available online via ebay for about $20.  I had assumed it would be an expensive endeavor, but as it turns out, I got a new/old kodak duaflex IV (and flash) on ebay for only $10!  here she is, isn’t she purty?! ( I am thoroughly enjoying this and it was well worth the $10 plus shipping)

so here are my first ttv attempts.

then yesterday I took the set up with us to get some shave ice at Shimazu’s on School street. YUUM!

and lastly, my new new toy. I was interested in the Polaroid POGO printer. It prints on special paper with no ink. one 2×3 self adhesive photo from your cell phone (through bluetooth) or from your digital camera with firewire cable and one minute later… a mediocre print. I’ll have to say it was probably a waste of money.  I am working on it though.

so that’s it for now.  next time I’ll share my scrapbook dimensions projects. and hopefully I’ll have some other goodies to share soon too.
