crayon gifties

While browsing my Google Reader I came across a post for making custom crayon blocks by melting down crayon pieces in the oven. I remember seeing it in heart shapes last valentines (maybe elle’s?) and then again I last week I saw it on my girlfriend Erica’s blog and I knew it was finally time to try it out! I had this brownie bite pan that I bought a while back that I didn’t really have great results with… so I knew I’d just use it for our crayons.

I sat with the crayons thinking it’d be easy to peel off the paper. after all, the little does it all the time (to my dismay). But do you know what? That paper was a hassle. Troy suggested soaking the crayons and I just decided to use my xacto knife to put a slice down the paper. It worked like a charm!

I knew I wanted marbled crayons in similar color families, so I went through layering bits of crayons… and then I realized that I was supposed to spray the pan first, D’Oh! I was really wishing we had more white crayons. like if they sold a pack of white, I totally would have bought them!

I baked them and then cooled them in our freezer.

We made another batch!

We packed them two to a package and made treat toppers with Kraft Paper, Sizzix die, Stampin’ Up! Stamp and Punch.

Today we delivered them to Jordan’s classmates :) Happy!

We also got all our cards printed, stuffed, addressed, stamped and off in the mail. I am so relieved to have that done!

Goodbye school, hello summer

and hello constant activity! The boys got out of school on Friday. It was a teary day as they left Navy Hale Keiki for the last time. Jalen was graduated from the third grade, the seniors of the school, so to speak. all three of them. Here are pictures of Jalen with his two teachers. I love them and the way they nurtured and lead my son. sigh*

I made the teachers thank you cards, brought them lei and gifties for the last day. My card was inspired by a card I saw on the blog hop.

the clouds and woodgrain are hero arts background stamps, the patterned paper on the banner are from the Oct Afternoon Cherry Hill pad. I love how it came out, although the word was a little longer than I anticipated, it’s okay with me. ;)

also I have been continuing on with my crocheting… i’m hooked, hee hee, and on Row 14 of my scarf. here’s what it looks like right now:

5 more rows to go, then fringe! wheeee!

I also tried out the embroidery floss to make those cute little flowers, ahhh I love it!

Today was a busy first day of Summer. We ran to the post office, picked up an ebay purchase from israel.check. drove out to Kahala to pick up a dental health certificate for Jordan’s new preschool.check. went to the new preschool to pay deposit, buy a shirt and turn in paper work.check. home to pick up checks in the mail (yay!).check. off to the bank for deposits. check, check, check, check! home for lunch, legos and nap. I tortured Jalen with a writing assignment, and I crocheted nap time away. Still need to make a run to the commisary, but over all today was a day with things checked off the list, and that’s always a good thing.

Flat Joscie’s trip to Toronto was documented on Miss Mint’s blog. so.cute. Did I tell you I did a silhouette card tutorial over there?

They are supporting our nation’s armed forces by sending blank greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them

Do you think, Wow, I want to be a part of that!? I want to show my appreciation in a real and concrete way!? I’d hoped you’d say that! You can!

This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart! My husband is in the Navy and my brother is in the army and my other brother was in the marines…and we have so so many friends in the military who have served on deployments. I also know, as a family member, it is always so nice to get real mail from our service member when they are gone.

The creative prompt for yesterday’s LOAD was to sum up your life, motto, attitude, yourself in 6 words, no more, no less. I have thought about this challenge before and it is challenging and fun to come up with 6 word sentences (or lists).

Here is mine:

Originally I was thinking I’ll get right on that tomorrow but thanks to the pack of thickers having only 3 ts… I rewrote to I will get on that tomorrow. still funny I think. also the journaling underneath says procrastination… it’s a way of life! (insert giggles here). I am going to get back to scrapping now, because I am enjoying it! :)

our latest ATC trade over at Concroption.com is about pets… Our family pet is a stuffed dog named (by Jalen at age 4) Floo Fluff. He is the best trained dog ever. He knows how to sit, stay, lie down and play dead. He also never jumps on us, never gets fleas, never sheds… just great at cuddling up on the couch. :) While I was at it, I decided to make a digi page as well.

I also finished and packed up my “pet atc trade” to mail out… :) I used the new stampin’ up! scalloped edge punch! and that super sweet speech bubble stamp from bam pop. I love it!

Honolulu Rubber Stamp Expo

I went down this morning with my girlfriend Terri to the Rubber Stamp Expo at the Neal Blaisdell Center. It was a small show, but we still had fun chit chatting and walking around! I left my boys at home with Dad *and the olympics* and her kids were home too. So it was so much fun wandering! We got there early and each scored a free stamp (I got a hero arts dotted line stamp).

when we went in, we got a free roll of ribbon too :) we got over to a booth with some sweet thickers… ahh, they had my number!

they also had some bam pop stamps with my new favorite: ROBOTS! THese are the ones I bought:

I also saw some autumn leaves inks (*I have heard so many good times)

I can’t wait to get into my robot stamps! :)

Hope you’re all watching the olympics, wow, it’s amazing! We are very emotional in our family… and it was just tears all around watching the opening ceremony last night. Troy and I both grew up swimming competetively And we are loving watching the swimmers!
