Hello Friends! I am so excited to finally be at a point in my #projectLife project to be able to share something with you. I have been busy with my daily photos and posting them on the blog daily and just finally had a chance to get some prints and get started. I am using the Clementine Kit, Becky’s Page Protectors (assorted) and my vast stash of digi and traditional products. I am planning for two american crafts binders to house this project so I included part one on this title page.

Project Life Title Page Part 1

I have included an extra Christmas card in the top right corner. The picture for the Christmas card as well as the bikes and the converse picture are all from our family photo shoot with the fabulous Marina Miller of Red Heart Photography (used with permission). I cut the flags on my silhouette (new blades are #1) and used Paper Trey Ink Kraft Cardstock. Studio Calico wooden houses (two stacked) and circle graph paper and brown arrow sticky notes. The red numbers are some I scored from a snack bar menu board (and i have a ton!) I trimmed the top off one everyday life journaling card and cut the edges to match my other flags. Red and blue washi tapes from Hambly. American Crafts Thickers (blue glitter). I used my sewing machine to stitch with black thread and my typewriter to type on some flags. some close ups, click any for a larger view:

The circle numbers and little days are stickers from the Clementine kit. I am pretty impressed with the white stickers, they seem to disappear enough that they look like they were added before printing the pictures.

I also added a strip of zigzag stitching for interest. Red Speech bubble sticky note is from Studio Calico. White 3 is vinyl thickers (really old) I added journaling on these grid cards from my Clementine Kit because they were the only landscape oriented journaling cards. I copied and pasted information on the photos from my blog and printed using this template from Paislee Press. You should get these templates too. FREE! I added a number sticker to each card and date stamped each card as well. I also had extra spaces so I added some other photos. close ups, click to view larger:

Week Two (left)

I have to tell you, my ocd brain was not happy that I had to use this shape of page protector at the beginning of this week because chronologically my first picture was landscape AND it was already printed at full size. but I’m getting over it. I had extra spaces for ephemera (fancy word for <del>crap </del> memorabilia I hoarded in the name of this project) and truthfully, the kfc bag was actually from the first week, but you know what? I’m okay with that. AND it felt good to be guilt free in throwing out the other receipts that I had saved but ended up not using. win-win. When I was ready to add journaling, I figured that since I hadn’t added anything bulky to the grid journaling cards, I was able to run them through the printer again and use both sides. even more win. I use a strip of washi tape to hold the cards in place, it peels off nicely. If you don’t want to use washi tape, you can also use blue painters tape.

January 12 on 12

Week Two (right)

I stitched a little napkin roll paper from CPK onto my journaling card. I also stitched the number from the barber shop right on top of the picture. I added date stamps on everything. For the bottom right side I printed the journaling onto one card with a space in the middle so I could cut and paste appropriately. I also had a little space fora few extra photos and i just used my mini stapler from tim holtz for that.

whew! and that’s it for my first two weeks. I have to tell you, I picked up some photo paper in both 4×6 and 8.5 x 11 to print at home. I have an HP Photosmart printer. It’s not the best ever, but it’s good enough for me. I realized that I have to think about what sizes I want to layout in my book before I make prints to minimize waste. I am pretty happy with the results so far. If you’re on the fence, I am glad I have started it. I think I should have just ordered grid cards, page protectors in A and D and 6×12. I do like the number and day of the week stickers and the papers/journaling cards are cute.

Please feel free to leave any questions in the comments and I’ll get to them as I can. I also plan to space out the future project life posts once a week or so.
Thanks for stopping by!

Love Love and Blog you Later,

Joscie, rhymes with bossy :)

Hello October! I can’t believe it’s already October, can you? but then again, I seem to say this every month as if I expect time to pause while I get my stuff together? anyway. My ear problem recurred on Wednesday night so I called early Thursday morning to get a same day appointment and miraculously, I got to see my doctor. She scolded me for not coming in 3 weeks ago when the problem first came up and urged me to go to the ER if it got worse over the weekend. I thought to myself, why is it that I do not hesitate to drop everything and head out to the ER for anyone else but for myself I grit my teeth and bear it? The Dr. gave me ear drops and motrin and it is feeling better, yeah! The boys and I got flu shots while we were there, and miraculously Jalen tolerated it very well. I tried to help him with relaxing his body and it worked. The girl administering the shots was quick, effective and pleasant which is more than I can say for one of the ones I’d come across in the Peds Immunization room in the past.

We received Jalen’s Halloween costume in the mail this week. He’s going to be Green Lantern and the costume is super cute. It’s a little big, but I’m sure we can make it work. He says he’s not trick or treating, he wants to give out candy at the house. We also got Troy’s Top Hat in the mail, it’s cute too. I’ve been sewing a little at a time. I got all our pattern pieces cut out and started by sewing my dress first. I have been really precise with the patter cutting, pinning and sewing for this dress and I’m really excited to see how it fits. I was worried the top might not fit quite right and had to seam rip a few times but I think it’s on the right track now.

I bought a few black plastic pumpkins and black rats at Target last month and I am using them for Halloween decor. I took the rats and used a small sharp scissors to cut out the little red bubbles they had for eyes and stuck on some clear gradient adhesive gems. I also glittered my pumpkins with glue and black glitter. I had a little craftmergency when I used up a whole tube of doodlebug glitter on one pumpkin. Thankfully I avoided a craftastrophe by picking up a big jar of black glitter from Martha Stewart. ;)
I also created some cute hybrid decor, you can see here on the Design House Digital Blog tomorrow.

Last Sunday we took a trip down to Pearl Ridge after church for lunch at CPK and then around the mall to check out their “Can Struction” event. We rode on the sky tram, visited the photo booth.

This weekend we are picking up the disc of photos from our shoot with the ever fabulous Marina Miller, I’m so stoked! I am going to get some cardmaking done on this world cardmaking day and then back to sewing. We are looking at just over a week until Troy’s expected return home and we are super stoked about that.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hello friends! We have been going back and forth on our Halloween plans for this year. The past two years we have been gryffindors but have decided to make a change for this year. I’ve been pinning costumes for a while. We discussed Lego Mini Figs,

<img src='http://d30opm7hsgivgh.cloudfront.net/upload/207751021_SQA5Jobc_c.jpg' border='0' width='426 height ='640'/>

Source: flickr.com via Joscelyne on Pinterest

Minions,

<img src='http://d30opm7hsgivgh.cloudfront.net/upload/215429179_Wv7YjBtS_c.jpg' border='0' width='258 height ='400'/>

Source: coolest-homemade-costumes.com via Joscelyne on Pinterest

superheroes…. but whatever the case, I always like to go with a theme. Jordan decided he wanted to be Captain America and Jalen, who insists he doesn’t want to trick or treat didn’t want to dress up, was thinking about thor because really, that hammer (however you pronounce the name) is pretty cool. I was all for it. I thought Troy could be Iron Man or Tony Stark (hello avengers) and I could be pepper or something like that…. but to my surprise Troy opted for Mr. Darcy. :) and I am going to be Elizabeth Bennett. Sadly this costume was a little out of our price range…

<img src='http://d30opm7hsgivgh.cloudfront.net/upload/204871676_ufLcpQdY_c.jpg' border='0' width='553 height ='756'/>

Source: etsy.com via Joscelyne on Pinterest

We visited Party City near our home and circled that ridiculous parking lot twice before opting to drive to the farther party city store out at Waikele. We easily found a costume for Jordan:

he loves it and so do i.

We searched and picked up a helmet and hammer for Thor but unfortunately the only Thor costumes they had were mens’ size XL or Plus. sadly, tooo big for Jalen. I declared, we’ll just order it online! and when we got home I was further saddened to discover that THOR costumes were just not available in Jalen’s size. so we opted for Green Lantern. oh the disgrace, he’s not an avenger. :( but I’m sure it’ll still be awesome.

We went yesterday to the fabric store so I could pick up some patterns and fabric for Mr. Darcy. I picked the patterns that were closest to what I was looking for and I’m hoping for the best out of this very ambitious project. Today I’m prewashing the linen and cottons and tonight I’m sure I’ll be ironing 8 yards of each. ha. Wish me luck!

We also picked up some products for Halloween decor projects I’ll be sharing as I finish them.

What are your Halloween plans, do you celebrate? do you dress up? I can’t wait to hear.

Thanks for stopping by!
Love Love and Blog you Later,

Hi and Happy Two Peas Tuesday to you! A little over a month ago we were offered the chance to do hybrid projects to be featured as a guest post on the Two Peas in a Bucket Halloween Event blog. And you know I jumped at the chance! I used Jen Allyson’s Spooky kit to create this hybrid Trick or Treat Bag modeled so professionally by Jordan, I might add ;) The blog post went live this past Sunday. The tutorial is posted here. You can also see Laura’s super cute cupcake toppers :) I think it is kind of funny that our pictures are right next to each other and the user names list Joscie & Laura O’Donnell. Kinda looks like we’re a couple and I got a good giggle out of that. but anyway, check out the tutorial :)

This week I worked with several cute kits. We welcomed a new designer to Two Peas this week, Dianne Rigdon. I must say, I love her style. It’s a little grungy, a lot like paper and easy to use for any topic. my favorite style!

Ha. So the days have been slipping by and in my attempt to get the new laptop and new desktop upgraded to windows 7… well, you know. Time just keeps ticking by. The laptop has sucessfully upgraded with no evident issues. The desktop, however, is reacting a little strangely. Whenever I try to download something, whether from online or the camera memory card, it starts but usually stops midway and then it appears that the external hard drives disappear. I have checked the drivers for both hard drives but windows says the driver are current. And windows update offers no further updates. so I’m not sure where that puts the status of the desktop. I am hoping I can find the issue and fix it, otherwise, I may end up doing a recovery back to vista and upgrading from scratch. which might be best. we’ll see. I am just thankful I have to laptop to use.

so. The pictures of the day.

Last year I made this brilliant offer to make something for some people. and not so surprisingly, I never got to it in time. So I finally started. This will be an apron for one of my gift recipients…. I just eyeballed it, cut and started sewing. and I love it!

wide angle fun at the preschool.

and yes, again.

I’m hoping to finish up rereading breaking dawn soon, get some digi scrap in and fix my desktop computer. so, thanks for stopping by, and I’ll blog you again real soon!

Love Love,

Sunday was a very busy day, we took a little trip down to China town to buy lei for Troy’s homecoming and a little snack too. Our favorite Lei Store was called sweethearts back in the day and then re-emerged as Po’ohala a few years ago, same family, new name. I always go there to buy lei for our friends who are visiting or those like Troy, who are coming home. The boys were able to choose their own lei to give to dad, Jalen chose a tuberose and orchid lei, Jordan chose a lantern ilima and tuberose lei, and I chose a hala lei for Troy.

While we were down in China town, we took a walk around the block for our very favorite Chinese treat, manapua (aka char siu bao). My very favorite place to go is Char Hung Sut. It’s the kind of place where you walk in and order from one person, another person runs and fills your order and the girl at the register scribbles the math on a stack of scratch paper. it’s just so good.

I know you’re going to find this hard to believe, but I procrastinated a little bit on making the welcome home banner. I toyed with the idea of ordering a sign, Noel even sent me a link, but of course I waited too long. I also entertained the idea of cutting vinyl and making a banner, if I could just stop off at a sign making shop and get a banner to apply my vinyl to… but in the end I decided to cut and sew a banner, on Sunday.

Jalen commented that our coconut tree did not have any coconuts and did we have to wait 3 days? (that’s a facebook my farm joke, btw)

We expected the ship to be pulling in around 830am-ish so we arrived around 8. We had to park a good distance and I wanted to be sure we had enough time. I let Jordan ride the umbrella stroller so i could load our goods on the handles. There was a cool tent and seats set up for us to lounge while we waited for the ship.

I loved the reflection in Jalen’s glasses, you can see me right in the middle.

We watched as the ship pulled up. Troy was not manning the rails, he said he had something to do inside the ship, I didn’t even ask what it was. When the ships pull in from a deployment to Pearl Harbor, they tie a lei to the front of the ship. It’s made out of plastic (i think it’s trashbags).

the boys held their umbrella signs, even though dad wasn’t on the outside of the ship…

Then we waited and waited, and Troy showed up, checked out on leave in his Tshirt and shorts with all his goodies. Jordan got to give the first lei:

Jalen the second (and me last)

The boys went back to school on Tuesday and Troy fell in with our daily routine. I got my new id card that I have been waiting for. I was so excited to see that the camera was mounted up high on the counter, at a flatteringly higher angle than the chair. It’s the little things that help a girl out, ya know?! Of course i can’t show you the id card, but it does look like me, so I’m happy. Today’s errands included a trip to the pumpkin patch…

ha ha, just kidding. you know on the Wednesday before Halloween, the pumpkin patch is closed. and evidently the Navy Commissary is also sold out of pumpkins. So we took a trip to Sam’s Club and picked out 4 non rotten pumpkins. ha ha.

and have I told you, I love this man?

pumping my gas. **swoon** what a man. and do you know what I did on Monday night? I was able to run out and pick up steaks for dinner, by.my.self! and I was able to come home and cook dinner while he bathed the little. **sigh** it is so good to be a family of four again. We are enjoying and being thankful for all our many blessings. I want to thank all of you who prayed for us and him while he was gone, I really really appreciate it! Tomorrow’s excitement? I’m getting a long over due eye exam. and I’m not only buying new glasses, but I’m also getting sunglasses. prescription sunglasses. eeeeeeee! You lucky ladies who wear contacts or have been blessed with good eyesight have no idea. For people like me, sunglasses require so much effort. I am such a lucky girl. I’ll check in with my new eyewear when they come in, I can’t wait! SUNGLASSES! yay!

Thanks for stopping by, Love Love and Blog you later!

Do you remember the blanket/sleeping mat that I sewed for Jordan? I didn’t really measure it. I just eyeballed the fabric, made a loose plan in my head and started sewing. I only had to rip the seams one time… ha ha. I was quite proud of it. sent it to school with him.. and then when I went to pick him up from school, he was laying on the carpet and using the sleeping bag as a blanket. When we got home, I layed it out on the living room carpet and asked him if he knew how to use it. He says yes and climbs into the sleeping bag. his head is on the carpet and the blanket part is about up to his chest. I am floored. WHAA!? I sent you to school with a blanket that was too small? Okay son, we’ll go back to the fabric store tomorrow and get more fabric and make you a bigger one. Fast Forward to early saturday morning at the Fabric Mart. Picking up the same fabric and buying more than I did the last time and while I was there, I saw some super cute fabric that made me think of a friend of mine, so i picked up a yard of that as well.

We came home, washed the fabric and I started ironing. I measured his height and added some and cut the fabric. I started sewing it and then for some reason went to look at the old “too short” sleeping bag. what?! they are like the same size! Jordan, please come here. I lay the old one down again and ask him to please climb in it again. He does. I say, please scoot all the way in until your feet are at the bottom. THAT sleeping bag fit him perfectly. aw, man! I figure, oh, well, it’s already sewing, I might as well complete the second one. So here it is, sleeping bag, v2.

my first attempt at creating my own bias tape! :) not too bad.

and as for that other fabric? take a peek and see if you can guess who it reminded me of?

I sewed up an apron for my pal and mailed it off on Monday. I’m hoping it’ll arrive to her soon! (surprise!) my first try at sewing with piping.

sometimes I see something and can’t help but think of friends. :)

So Jordan started his new preschool this week. Well, sorta started. They really take into consideration that some kids have never been to preschool or day care, or even out of sight of mom…. (or other primary caregiver). Monday was the parent’s orientation. We learned the rules of the school, proper protocols and all that preschool stuff. Tuesday we had a home visit. Jordan’s two teachers (Aunty Chris and Aunty Elaine) came by for a quick visit in the early afternoon. and no, we’re not related to them, it’s a Hawaii thing to call elders Aunty and uncle. comes in handy when you run into your friend’s mom that you can’t remember her name… You just say, Hi Aunty! :) and it’s all good. Wednesday was a day off (they were visiting other families) and Thursday was the first day of school for Jordan. sort of. You see, there are 20 kids in the class and they are divided into 4 groups of 4-5 kids. Our group of 4 met for an hour (with a parent, and Jalen had to go with my mom) at the school so the kids could learn a few things about school. I love that they start the day with an activity and then the group starts with prayer and song. Jordan was sad that it was only an hour and did not want to leave when our time was up. Friday was another visit for an hour with 8 kids, but parents only had to stay for the check in, morning activity/reading and then the kids went with the teachers for the remainder of the hour. Jalen and I sat in the van while I continued to crochet his scarf and laughing over charlie and the chocolate factory on the iPod.

do you see that young lady on the left? that’s Aunty Chris, his teacher. she’s soo sweet!

here’s my monkey hanging around!

This week we also took a trip to Fabric Mart to buy some fabric to make a sleeping bag/mat for nap-time at school. I ended up not buying quite enough fabric. I originally had envisioned a lined sleeping bag with flannel on the inside and cool car/surfboard print on the outside. I thought if I folded it in half it would be a good size, but when I got it home, I thought it might be too narrow. anyway, I ended up using some blue chambray that I have had forever. (originally bought it to make slip covers for our old couch) I like the final result, even though I was somewhat of a bone head and had to rip the seam one time.

I also had a strip of left over fabric, so I stitched up some simple drawstring bags, one wide and two narrow. The boys are enjoying those, and I’m wanting to make some of my own :)

I sent out the ATCs for our monthly Concroption DT swap and wanted to share with you. I chose the theme ME cards. sort of like a baseball card that has a picture of you and a little tidbit to share. Here is the card I came up with:

the card is made on a pink hounds-tooth Making Memories Paper. The flower is prima and the book paper is actual paper from an old book I bought at last year’s book sale.

The other girls cards:

my pet peeve card:

This past month’s card theme was movie quotes. You know I’ve been obsessed with balloons since we saw UP… and though I wanted to quote Dug, that oh so lovable dog, it didn’t quite fit in my mind with the balloon pics I wanted to use. So i used a quote from Ellie’s scrapbook to Mr Fredrickson.

and I made a card for the hostess Allie:

I love this Japanese Paper tape I got here… so cute!

I hope you enjoyed these ATCs. I really enjoy trading these with the girls, swaps are so much fun when you know no one is going to flake out!

Love Love and blog you later!
