Huntsville Space and Rocket Center

We drove up to Huntsville to see the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center.  It was much bigger than I expected and we easily could have spent a few days there. We were pleasantly surprised that Active Duty Military and their families get in free!

for as long as I can remember I’ve loved taking pictures.  From my very first 110 camera in 4th grade through the high school newspaper’s slr, my dad’s Minolta, my rebel 35mm, my sony mavica, sony point and shoots, canon digital rebel xt and now my canon 40D, cell phone camera, and fuji instax. I will always love capturing things and people through my lens.

we don’t take the opportunity to go out on dates but when Granny and Pop come to visit, we do.  This date night we had dinner at Zippys’ and caught Xmen at Dole Cannery Theater. It was opening night for Transformers 3 so it was not crowded in our theater at all.  We enjoyed the time together.

hybrid valentine’s typewriter card

  • I printed this Love Actually Paper by Polka Dot Pixel on white textured American Crafts card-stock.
  • I trimmed to fit the card front.
  • I tied a bow out of red binding tape and wrapped it around the card front.
  • I zigzag stitched it to the card.
  • I stamped the Hero Arts typewriter stamp in Red Versafine ink on Neenah White Card-stock.
  • I hand trimmed the typewriter and adhered Pink Gradient Pearl Stickers to the keys.
  • I stamped the I & U on the paper and drew in the heart on the paper.
  • I adhered the paper to the card front with foam adhesive from American Crafts.

My POTD from Sunday.  We went to the movies again at the base and caught a showing of the Chronicles of Narnia, voyage of the Dawn Treader.  Every time I see this phone booth I think, that would be  a cool superman/clark kent type shot. so I finally remembered.

When I saw this kit I Feel Pretty by Scrap Originals , I knew I wanted to (re)scrap this once in a lifetime event. In July 2002, I had just become a Mary Kay Consultant and went off to my first Seminar in Dallas, Texas with Troy and my Director Kristie. On Day 0 we toured the plant and corporate headquarters. On Day 1, after lunch, the spouses went to “spouse class” and the consultants and directors were treated to a fashion show. Rhonda Shasteen took the stage and announced that one lucky consultant was going to win an awards night dream makeover including a gown, hair and makeup by the Robert Jones. As soon as I heard this, I started praying immediately. Dear God, I would so LOVE to win this prize. Robert Jones is so incredibly talented. I respect him. Please let this be me. and then Rhonda says, She’s in the Welle Area (which is a reference to our National Director and like saying she lives on Earth because the Welle Area is huge) lots of screams.  Then she says She’s from Center Point… and all I can really remember at this point is jumping and screaming and screaming and jumping. I hear my name and then I get to go on stage with Rhonda… I am introduced to the stylist Bari, the photographer Connie and the other corporate representative, Sherry Blake.  I ask, can my husband come too? Sure! So we line up for before shots and then head off in the limo to Neiman Marcus armed with my tiara and pink feather boa. We ended up finding “the dress” at Terry Costa. Bari also picked up a purse, shoes, jewelry. Then next day after classes I get to go for hair and make up. It is so surreal, I am sitting in the chair and talking to Robert Jones, and he is working his magic on my face. I consider never washing my face again. ;) I get to walk out on stage and talk to Rhonda and everyone cheers. It really was one of my most exciting moments. All night long people are asking to have their picture taken with me, and I am happy to oblige.

Jalen and I got home from the Big Island on Friday night and the past few days have gone by way to quickly.  I finally got a chance today to get some digi scrap time and hybrid time in.  The first layout is called Kahua Ranch.

journaling: we arrived by bus to Kahua Ranch in Kohala on the Big Island. We took a small walking tour of the ranch and saw some orphaned animals, the sheep shearing area and the ranch chapel. The kids rolled in the grass, touched animals and pulled weeds. We enjoyed our lunch with this beautiful view. It was a great visit to such an amazing place.

journaling: We were walking on the beach before dinner and saw a lot of cool looking shells. You picked one up and said, “Look, it’s a Hawaiian Shell Money! Can I keep it?” How could I refuse? I said, “Sure, put it in your pocket.” We went on for about thirty minutes gathering shells. When we got back to the car, we put them in a container and you were so excited. When we got home you declared, “If we got to the store, I’m keeping my Hawaiian Shell Money.” I think you got the idea from a Dr. Seuss Book we’ve been reading called One Cent, Two Cent, Old Cent, New Cent: All About Money. It tells how seashells were used to barter and trade, a handful of shells and you had it made!

I created this card by using Laina Lamb’s Digital Die cut files with my silhouette. I cut some making memories paper and October afternoon paper. Glimmer misted with Iridescent Gold, pop dots and a button and some thickers letters and stitching. a card to make the recipient smile :)

I printed this flower on matte photo paper, did a rough trim, cut around the edges with Martha Stewart fringe scissors, a little distress ink, mount with pop dots over some Honey Church Paper. :) thanks for looking :)

I love Vinnies Camera overlay/stamp and it went so well with this paper from her Bucket Full of Sunshine kit. I created in PS, printed, trimmed, sewed onto some cardstock, added some japanese masking tape, easy peasy!
