We have put a few miles on the trail a bike, some with me pulling and some with Troy pulling.  On the time when Troy pulled, I noticed that Jordan’s feet would slip off the pedals sometimes and reminded him to put his toes, not his heels on the pedals.  He also has a habit of trying to lean to see around the front cyclist, and I also reminded him not to do that.  about a week ago we were all riding down a bike path near our home and Jordan took a tumble off the trail a bike.  I was pulling him and when I felt the bump and stopped.  I looked back and about 10 feet back Jordan was sitting on the path crying.  We checked him out and he could move and wasn’t bleeding much so we rinsed his abrasions with the water we had and made our way home.  It was about a mile from home so we had to stop a few times on the way as he wanted us to keep pouring water on his scrapes.  Once we got home, I gave him some tylenol and ice packs for his injuries.  He had a scrape on his knee, elbow, shoulder,  and rib cage, all on the left side.  As we sat at home for a few minutes Jordan started shivering and I thought though it might be the ice, he also might be going into shock.  We put a jacket on him and loaded up into the van for another trip to the ER.  I must say this for Tripler, they handled him relatively quickly and gave him an all clear. (thanks GOD!) We all wear helmets, everytime.  I urge you to do the same.

My Mom

My mom had a colonoscopy that detected a mass near her appendix and her doctor scheduled her for surgery to remove her appendix and 30% of her colon.  The surgery was on Thursday and she’s going home today.  Thankfully the hospital is minutes from my home and we were able to visit quite often and also thankfully, the staff did not enforce the 14+ age requirement for visitors so the boys were able to visit as well.  We are praying for an all clear on the pathology report.

Memorial Day Weekend

• We were lucky enough to enjoy a 4 day weekend with Troy for Memorial Day.
• Thursday after visiting my mom we headed down to Dole Cannery Theater to watch Kung Fu Panda 2.  It was a cute and funny movie and not a single too loud comment from Jordan, thankfully.
• Saturday we did some building/tinkering with some drawers we picked up at Re-Use Hawaii. Troy cleaned up the back yard and we gave away our plastic picnic table and sand/water table.  Yay for recycling!
• We went to Lowe’s to pick up some paint. while waiting for the paint to be mixed we saw some kids doing gymnastics on the cart. parents completely oblivious. :(
• We were driving down Ala Moana Blvd and the ambient temp gauge started going crazy in the van and the a/c started blowing hot air at the same time. unless of course it was 118* outside!  I was so bummed and freaked out about a return trip to the dealership.  GOOD NEWS: when we got home, troy took a look and found a big plastic bag that had blown up under our car that was right on the sensor and what ever it was doing, it stopped and everything works fine. YAY for Troy! :)
• we ate out a lot. zippy’s, outback, bubba gumps, chili’s, slush floats from Rainbow Drive In after the aquarium.
• I picked some of my sugar snap peas and ate them. so HAPPY! i want more.
• We took a trip up to Punchbowl (National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific) to take flowers to my dad’s grave on Monday.
• We also took a trip to the Waikiki Aquarium by Jordan’s request.
• Almost every morning around 6:30am Jordan makes his way to my room and crawls in the bed, he is a bed hog.
• We were on our way to lunch at Ala Moana Shopping Center and saw a lady on a moped veer into traffic (thankfully the truck stopped) but as she tried to move back out of the way, she fell over. Troy jumped out of the van to help her up and over to the sidewalk and I pulled the van over to the side.  Another person stopped who happened to be an ER nurse.  He helped assess the lady while someone else called 911.  The police and ambulance showed up and then we were able to leave her in their care.

Thursday morning was the soft opening of the brand new Lego Store in the Ala Moana Shopping Center. We have been anxiously awaiting it’s arrival!  The signs around the construction area only said coming 2009 but never indicated a date.  Last week we were at Ala Moana and spotted a lady walking into the store and she gave us the heads-up about the Thursday morning opening.  We met up with two girlfriends and their kids and wandered the Lego Wonderland!  There were so many neat displays, and areas for the kids to play with some Legos, a mini figure construction area… and just everything Lego.  Possibly my favorite part was the pick a brick wall in the rear of the store.  There were two sizes of cups, like slurpees, and you could pick the bricks you wanted and fill the cups.  It was crowded and busy, but the workers were all so friendly and helpful, we’ll definitely be back.  We are also excited about the coming monthly FREE kids construction projects where each child can build and take home a Free mini project.  On Thursday afternoon, when Troy got home from work, we headed back down for him to see the store.  I was surprised to see some of the same workers from earlier in the morning still working at such a late hour.

Since Troy is going to be deployed on Jalen’s and My birthday, we decided to splurge on a fancy lunch to celebrate.  Yesterday we went to Tanaka of Tokyo at Ala Moana for lunch.  It is a Japanese restaurant where they prepare the meal on the grill in front of you and perform dazzling, entertaining tricks with spatulas and food.  So much fun.  They even brought Jalen a scoop of Ice Cream with a candle and sang to him :)

and as we were waiting for the check, Jordan says, Mom, look, I’m an ewok! :) ( i know it’s blurry, but I couldn’t resist sharing it anyway!)

Journaling: They say we all have our guilty pleasures, and this is mine.  I love cup-o-noodles.  Of course, I’d take traditional saimin or wun tun mein in a restaurant over cup-o-noodles anyday, but for something I can have at home, and in 3 minutes? I love it.  even though it has 12g of fat, 6g of that is saturated fat.  I know, I know.  but if loving cup-o-noodles is wrong, I don’t want to be right!**

Today we celebrated Wednesday. An average day in paradise where the boys got out of school early and Troy got out of work early enough (and no homework for Jalen) so we drove up to the North Shore. First stop at the Dole Plantation to take a picture of our current house guest flat stanley who is visiting from Alabama. The worlds largest maze is there and Jalen wanted to check it out. I told him, maybe next time. You know that maze is huge and you can’t see over the hedges, just like in Harry Potter… and he was ready to get back in the car and keep on down the road. :)

Next stop in Haleiwa for Shave Ice at Matsumoto’s. This is our very favorite place to get it. We always order strawberry shave ice with vanilla ice cream and today we added blue vanilla and condensed milk on top. OHmyFrozen heaven. it was so good!

When we finished those two off, we headed back down the road to the “turtle beach” and lucked out. Today there were 6 turtles on the beach. The Hawaiian Sea Turtles are an endangered species so you can’t get too close, but we were lucky today and got lots (and lots) of pictures. they are so beautiful.

then down the road again to Waimea Bay, also known to Jordan as the “lucky stick beach”. The last time we went there he and Jalen picked up some “lucky sticks” there and thereby coined the name.

We made it back home in time to make dinner and have a mostly quiet evening. we are blessed. by the way, aren’t they looking cute in their new sunglasses and watches from Target?! They look like big boys, I just can’t get over it.

I also want to thank my friend Eileen who sent me some blog love last week, You are a sweetheart! :)

Happy Fat Tuesday!  That’s the day before ash Wednesday/Mardi Gras/Malasada Day.  So as not to break tradition, Jordan and I headed down to Leonard’s Bakery in Waimalu to pick up some Malasadas.  These hot, sweet deep fried yeasty sugary bits are so so good!  We picked up some for Jalen’s class to enjoy and some to bring home for the family! :)

We’re also hosting flat stanley who is visiting from Seattle, WA! So far he’s visited the school, leonard’s and the commissary.  I’m hoping to get out to some other great sites before he has to return.

I was trying to get a new avatar picture and Jordan wanted to climb up in my lap to pose with me. I was so happy to get these shots!

and my last finished project is for the Concroption.com DT atc swap.  The theme is love songs, but I just can’t get David Archuletta’s song CRUSH out of my head, so I went with that. ;)  I painted the 7gypsies atcs carribean blue (myFAVORITE) cut out some white felt clouds and sewed on red heart buttons (from walmart).  I also printed some words from the song with PSE/Printer/my handwriting font from yourfont.com.

I am currently working on an altered project for a concroption challenge, and thinking about other hybrid projects on the horizon.

Flat Joscie went to CHA with PrimaDonna Liz Hicks and had quite a time! Liz took her on a tour of all the coolest things, I am so thankful for Liz.  Flat Joscie made it to the glitz girls CHA recap video, met up with Vicki Boutin, Donna Salazar and Leah Fung… I can’t wait to read her travel journal.  Flat Joscie is heading to the big easy, if she’s not there already… to spend some time with Veronica (MissOnigur) in New Orleans… and then to Canada to visit none other than the fabulous Miss Mint! :)

Oh, and one last tidbit… Did you know Creating Keepsakes has a blog? I have been following it since it just started recently… I won a giveaway on the blog, yay! :)

Today was another beautiful day in paradise!  It was my nephew Ivan’s 14th birthday, so we joined him for a day out at Ka’a'awa Beach.  I love this HUGE umbrella I bought at Sam’s club a few years ago, paired with a handy gadget from WalMart that helps it dig into the sand… Shade! :)

and I was inspired to try this with my picky eaters.  in ice cube trays…Turkey, Pepperoni, string cheese, laughing cow cheese, carrots/grape tomato, grapes, strawberries, biscuits cut up, ranch, ketchup and chicken nuggets.  Both boys tried everything!  this was a huge success, and I think I am going to try this once a week or so. :)

My mom called the other day and asked if we wanted her to bring lunch… Manapua and pork hash from Libby’s. Manapua (a.k.a. char siu bao) is a sweetish pork filling in a sweet bread steamed.  Pork Hash is a dumpling. not sure other than pork. yummy. not health food!

Lahaina Noon fire hydrant.  This day the sun travelled directly over the islands at 12:37pm.  It’s called Lahaina Noon because it starts in Lahaina.  Thanks to Angela Keen for the info, I was able to head out to get this shot :)

Okay, so this is the first time I have ever made a gingerbread house. and I don’t mean from a kit. Not knocking anyone who uses a kit. just saying. i couldn’t find a kit and a new friend of mine from the CKMB (Pastry Mama) shared a recipe with me.
Now, I have made gingerbread before. once. made some uuuuugly cookies. but did I learn my lesson, nope. so here we go again. I made the pieces yesterday. note to self for next year: double the recipe, yes. try to mix it at the same time, no. unless Santa brings a Hobart mixer that is… oh and another note to self. get more cooling racks, cookie sheets and silpat mats. and a convection oven if you can swing it. okay, back to the story. so this morning, all the pieces are cool, and I mix up the royal icing. what do I do? break the first two pieces I am trying to put together. idiot. igmo. okay, try to salvage, glue the pieces back with icing. hmmm nother note to self, go ahead and make the icing a little thinner. funny how you get a little better as you go along. and plan what decorations you’ll use. and buy em. plenty of ‘em, and ahead of time!
once the structure was all together, Jalen and I decorated the roof. the most fun all day!

2. I really enjoyed going to Seattle CKC and visiting with my Cousin Sina while I was there. I really feel like we are so alike and we understand each other.

3. I am a blog a holic. I love blogging and reading blogs by others. I read mostly scrappy blogs, but also a fabric blog (they have such great designs, I wish they made paper!) I spend waaaay too much time reading blogs.

4. related to #3… I was on my friend Heather’s blog and noticed the feedjit widget that told where your visitors come from (and how they leave)… and was fascinated… so I installed one on my blog. I wondered how many people actually come here and where they come from… and was pleasantly shocked! I followed up by installing a counter to see how many people stop by… since not every one that stops by leaves a comment. I get way more blog hits than our family website and am considering changing the family website to my blog. but am concerned about everyone that has linked to the current address.

5. I love to take pictures. always have. When I was in High School, I was a video production geek. but not a geek. I did video, audio and editing… so much fun…when I went to UH, I worked as a student at KHET, Hawaii Public Television…

6. I don’t do anything in moderation. eating, exercise, scrapping, shopping, reading, pretty much all or nothing.

7. I wish I had more scrappy friends locally. I have a girlfriend who lives up the street that scraps… and I started a group at our church. I am looking forward to Lisa (saner ckmb) moving here in January.
