So. do you remember a few days ago i was telling you how i have two external hard drives? where I have the same information on both? Yes. you remember, the 10 years of digital photos, digi scrap etc… so one of those drives is an HP Personal Media Drive. It slides into a port on my desktop computer. It’s a 500Gig hard drive that I’ve had for several years and made the switch from my last desktop to my current desktop almost painless. It’s also the drive we carried with the laptop to Alabama so I’d have a place to store my photos and digi scrap if I got the urge. Two nights ago, I decided to take it upstairs with me to work on some digi scrap from bed while the boys went to sleep. I have a set up next to my bed, a power strip for all those items that need to be plugged in. velcro ties for all those snaky cords. everything trying to be neat. I set up the ehd (nicknamed L:LITTLEGIRL) on my bedside table and worked on the laptop on my bed. at some point before I really got started, I made a slight shift in position and that sweet LITTLEGIRL slid off the table while running, and GASP, fell to the carpet. and made the most awful grinding/scraping sound ever. the kind of sound that’s wiping, no gouging your ten years of pictures. your digi scrap supplies. your digi layouts. no. my digi layouts. :( I quickly unplugged it and said a little thankyou for the fact that I have M:THEBIGGIRL. M:THEBIGGIRL is a 1 TB external hard drive I bought last year. She has the most of the same information on her that the L:LITTLEGIRL had. I have lost about 10 pictures from the other day. and a few of the edited photos. but not many. and a few of the digi kits i got this month. When I sit here and consider what could have been lost… I am very thankful. Yesterday I immediately went to the store and bought another 1TB drive. It’s the same one as M:THEBIGGIRL. so i considered, as i plugged her in, what should I call you? N:THEOTHERWOMAN didn’t fit. and N:THEOTHERGIRL didn’t fit either. but more importantly, why oh why is my desktop computer not recognizing both of my drives? what? In all the craziness, it assigned the new drive to the letter M: as well. wha?! So only one was being recognized at a time! and how am I supposed to duplicate everything from M:THEBIGGIRL to the other yet to be named drive? insert google help. I asked google and it told me how to reassign drive letters. it was simple and painless. and in the process I had an epiphany about my new drives. call me obsessive if you must, but let me introduce you:

I now have M:EDWARD, N:JACOB AND G:BELLA (who goes with the laptop on a short cable)

I spent most of the day yesterday copying files from M:EDWARD to N:JACOB. and today I’ve spent most of the day reorganizing and redownloading a few of the kits i got this past month. I am also looking to an online service, probably mozy.

Yesterday’s picture of the day, Jalen gets out of school early on Thursdays so he got to go with me to pick up Jordan. They had a little fun time on the swings :)

Wednesday: aprons in my kitchen=happiness :)

Tuesday: a hybrid door hanger thingy.

and I have to tell you. i just dropped my (*%&(&* camera. on my 50mm. i swear. i should just work on everything on the floor.

it will get better. it will get better.

Thanks for stopping by, love love and blog you again real soon!

The past few weeks we have taken to goofing off on Friday afternoons/evenings. This has, unfortunately, lead to spending most of the day on Saturday dealing with Jalen’s homework. This week, I decided that we would come home right after school and work on homework like every other weekday. Jalen finished his assignments, and that lead to free time on Saturday. We spent the morning studying for his upcoming tests this week and after lunch and a nap (for all of us!) we headed down to spend the afternoon at Bishop Museum. It has been a while since we’ve been down to the museum. Since our last visit, our annual pass had expired, the Hawaiian Hall’s renovation had been completed and a new traveling display opened up. I thought, what better time than now to renew?!

The new exhibit was animatronic dinosaurs. These are always really really cool. And unfortunately for a family with a four year old, also really really scary. Look who greeted us at the entrance…

This big guy moved and growled (roared?) but it was quite intimidating. I had to piggy back Jordan into the building.

we didn’t stay long inside this display, and I didn’t make Jordan look at anything too scary. There was an excavation area with sand and cast skeletons that was pretty cool, and a bunch of more moving, roaring dinos. We moved along to the newly unveiled Hawaiian Hall.

The inside of the hall has only minimal artificial lighting and a sign saying no flash photography. I had carried both my 50mm f1.4 and my 10-22 3.5. I got a few good shots, using pillars and counters to rest the camera on.

If you live in Hawaii and haven’t been to Bishop Museum in a while, I highly encourage you to make a visit. It is so beautiful! If you’re coming on vacation to Oahu, this is a must see (along with Polynesian Cultural Center).

For the past year, I’ve been saving up to buy a new computer. I wanted to buy a mac, but ended up going with a new PC. This one has 8 Gig of RAM, a 1 Terra-byte hard drive (woo hoo lots of pictures and digi scrap space!) and also has a blue ray player. It was very affordable, and I’m using my old *(still fabulous) monitor that I got last year. add to this CS4 and totally rad actions… I have been so happy. On my old computer, although I had installed 2 additional Gig of RAM, it was only recognizing a little over 3 Gig and CS4 kept crashing every time I’d try to open too many RAW files or run an action. very frustrating. so all in all, even though I didn’t get a mac *(or a new lens) I am thrilled with our new puter! yay, yay and double yay. I am hoping this will lead to better productivity! (read more scrappage, blogging and picture editing!)

Love Love and blog you later! :)

(HMAUS) a group I recently joined. They are a great group of geeks interested in learning anything new and relevant when it comes to Technology. and they don’t even bug me about being a PC user. The Key Note Speaker was Lorelle VanFossen ( @lorellonwp ), an author, WP Guru, Woopra Expert and Nature Photographer. Hello? Could I be any more excited and interested?

I enjoyed learning new things (Hello Woopra! ) and hanging with other flickr/tweeps ! :) I am so thankful my mom was available to watch the boys so that Troy and I could get our geek on!

On Wednesday I’ll be going to a WebWeavers workshop with Adrienne Palmer ( @adriennepalmer ) where Lorell will be teaching WordPress. I can’t wait!

I went to a class on Saturday hosted by the HMAUS organization in Manoa for a webweaver’s day camp. (Lisa, you should have come, it was not as complicated as I thought it might be) We learned about WordPress and had a great time. My regular readers will remember that I have had trouble with blogger in the past, and like the faithful user that I am, I’d go stay and hope it would keep working. well. NO. MORE. even though blogger has been working like a charm lately, that doesn’t mean that it might not go down. I am still working on the layouts and styles for this website, but all the old posts, pictures and comments were transferred over here. The only change may be the permalink addresses. If you can’t find something, or if you have a suggestion or problem, please feel free to leave me a comment! Thanks again for being the awesomest blog readers in the gallaxy! :)
