Capture Your 365 blog hop

April 2nd, 2012 · blog, P366, Photography

Hello friends new and returning! Today I’m participating with several other photographers at Capture your 365.  I’ve tried in the past to complete a 365 project and fallen off course and sadly hung my head in shame.  I’m proud to say this year I’ve got creative prompts from Katrina Kennedy (and right in my inbox too!) and a gallery to share my pictures and a supportive community there and on facebook as well.  Things are looking good for this year so far.

Here’s what the blog hop looks like today:

If you’ve arrived from Kelly’s blog, you’re in the right place! If not, here’s a link to the first stop in the hop: Kelly.  I’ll link you up to the next stop at the bottom of the post.

On Saturday we celebrated with a children’s Easter Party at our church. I arrived early to help set up and also to snap some pictures before the madness. I shot with a Canon 5D mk II, 24-70L f2.8, edited with Lightroom. (you can click on any of these pictures for a larger view)

These were my favorites of the day.  I chose my official picture of the day because I am a sucker for shallow depth of field and evenly spaced patterns (the eggs in the background).

Thanks so much for stopping by! Your next stop on the hop is:  Suzanne’s Adventures in Quilting, Photography, Computers and Life

Hello Friends! :) This week is crayon week, sadly I have no crayons in my house, as I just gave a huge bin of crayons to my mom to keep at her house.  My boys use colored pencils and I use colored pencils and markers. I opted for 24 markers in blues, greens and grays.

this morning I went to a tea at a friend’s house and I could not resist her sweet little babe…

even Jalen could not resist her sweetness :)

I’m so excited because tomorrow we are going to Aulani for a character breakfast to celbrate Jordan’s birthday with the big Mouse. :) Thanks for stopping by!

New beginnings

March 28th, 2012 · P366, Photography

Hello Friends! We checked our options and figured out that the Apple Store was the place where our new computer would be picked out…. We went down to Ala Moana Shopping Center and enjoyed the last “Kids-Eat-Free” Tuesday at Islands Burger… where I had caesar salad with my chicken breast sandwich, it was so good.  We walked down to the apple store and I asked the boys to stand in one of these circles so I could snap a pic. so lucky no one else walked into the shot because it was quite busy… We went into the Apple Store and I checked in on Facebook, here at the apple store to buy a new iMac, please pass the Kool-Aid. The boy played with iTouches on display while Aaron was so friendly and helpful getting us just what we needed. I snapped some shots in the store too. then my P366 shot for yesterday, Troy and I with the new computer in store.

today’s prompt was ROY G. BIV. I captured a shot of my divine twine. I love organizing things in ROY G BIV order, you may remember my OCD tendencies where I rearranged the Kitchen Aid Mixers in the store and my washi tape display is in ROY G BIV order too.

thanks for stopping by!

P366 3.22-26

March 27th, 2012 · P366, Photography

Hello Friends!  Last week Thursday, March 22, I headed out my front door to snap some fun lego shots on my front porch. I blended up some ice to pretend we had a snowy ninja and when I came in to load the pictures into Lightroom, the PC was dead. Okay, so it had a black screen with a blinking cursor. For hours that day I would try and fix it but in the end, when I headed out for a conference with Jalen, I had a feeling it might not go well… and as it turns out, I was right. I’m currently working on my laptop and thankfully I have most of my data/pictures/digiscrap on EHDs so I’m in pretty good shape.

Lego Week: portrait in plastic

March 21st, 2012 · Family, Food, Hawaii, P366, Photography

Hello Friends, today’s prompt in this wonderful week of Lego is Portrait in Plastic. I used the same girl from yesterday, she represents me in our minifig family. I’m thinking she needs a new outfit because this one is kind of boring. but anyway…. here she is:

we also celebrated Jordan’s 7th Birthday Yesterday. He opened his presents early in the morning, before Troy went to work. The first from Granny and Pop, then ones from us.

we enjoyed his guava chiffon cake after dinner.

thanks for stopping by!

Lego Week: take it outside

March 20th, 2012 · P366, Photography

Hello friends! I took the prompt to heart and took the little minifigs outside.  I thought about a hiker/explorer looking guy walking through the grass, so I asked Jalen to get one like that for me and he delivered.

and then I started thinking, this kind of lighting reminds me of engagement/couple shoots. I wonder if I could make the couple kiss or hold hands or something…. and this is when I got a blanket out and lay in on the driveway so I could shoot just a little more comfortably!

I was not able to get them in kissing position, but I like what I got for this outing.

Thanks for stopping by!

Project Life Week 11

March 20th, 2012 · DT, Family, Food, Hawaii, navy life, P366, Photography, Two Peas in a Bucket

Hello Friends, welcome to Project Life Week 11.  This week I learned a new thing, and I’m excited to share it with you.  You know I’m an equal opportunity type of scrapper, right? I love my paper and glue and my pixels and printers. Well this past week Erica Hernandez released a new kit called indexed and one of the items included are these super cute journaling cards in pdf form.  I opened on sheet of the pdf journaling cards into PSCS5 thinking, i’ll just see if I can add my journaling first…. then I realized, I can add other items on top of this pdf just like a regular scrapbook page…. so i did. I added a few pictures and staples and alphas… and before you know it, I had 6 journaling cards ready for my PL spread.

I printed these out and then saved a websized file so I could share here… then I closed the file and realized. i made a mistake on the date on the lower right card. lame. but guess what? I can fix that with a date sticker or something… and i put a day of the week sticker on it. sunday. duh. it was saturday. and I put that Saturday sticker over that. problem solved. haha! Truthfully, these journaling cards are 3×4 and the pockets need inserts 2.9×4… so i trimmed just a sliver off each side of each card. no biggie.

March 12 on 12th

I’m using the same format throughout the year on the 12th of each month. a headshot of each member of the family, an item selected by each member of the family, then 4 randoms of my choice along with extensive journaling as to what is going on in our family at that time of the month. i thought it was funny we all had different colored tshirts on this month. i almost forgot it was the 12th!

Lego Week: Mini Fig Family

March 18th, 2012 · P366, Photography

Hello Friends! Today’s prompt kicks off Lego week and it’s mini-figs.  I thought about getting together an army of mini-figs after looking at my friend’s picture… but truthfully our mini-figs are in various states of disrepair… and it seemed a little more work than I was looking for… I opted for our family of mini figs. I bought these in 2010-ish and used magnets to put them up on the fridge. I custom ordered each part from Lego’s pick a brick online site. She originally had a pageboy hair cut, but since I’ve grown my hair out and Jordan had some black mermaid hair laying around… I asked him if my mini-fig could have the hair. He happily agreed. My original idea was a beach scene, yellow studs leading into clear into aqua into darker blue… but it didn’t quite work out the way i envisioned it.  It is completely overcast right now so i used two desk lamps to light the Legos. I taped up a piece of cloud scrapbook paper in the background.

i heart these windows

March 17th, 2012 · Family, Hawaii, navy life, P366, Photography

Yesterday we had to drive Troy over to Ford Island for a meeting and I was struck, yet again, with how much I love these windows. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but I really do. I love that there are so many and they are all lined up. I love the color, the texture, the fact that they are so old. .

I also love the hangar doors. and look, a bonus, check out this HUGE flag inside the hangar

i liked this shot that included the sky, but that light pole bothered me…

my picture of the day:

I also snapped this picture of SBX…

also yesterday, we finally had a chance to mail out some goody boxes to my girlfriend who just had a baby, and my blog giveaway winners… Jordan loves helping with the kiosk at the post office.

ps. i have a ps tutorial up at Samantha Walker’s blog, if you ‘d like to check it out.

Thanks for stopping by!
