Hello 2015

January 1st, 2015 · scrapbook

IMG_8277

Hello Friends! 2014 was a great year. It was the year I stopped being content and complacent with my diet and lack of exercise.  With the encouraging words from my Doctor: You are choosing NOW what kind of OLD PERSON you will be! I started watching my diet and regular exercise. I became a runner. ME. a RUNNER. I ran in 3 races. Voluntarily, even.  I gave away nearly every bit of clothing because it simply didn’t fit anymore. I’m lucky that we could afford to buy new clothes that fit and I’m super happy. I’m still working on some areas to improve and enjoying the process. In 2014 we planted a garden. We harvested lots of corn and cucumbers.  We faced some issues in the garden and hopefully we’ll move forward with a more successful garden next year.  and next year I’ll cut more corn off the cob that freezing it on the cob.  Late in 2013 we built a chicken coop and purchased 3 adult hens.  By this time last year we had collected our first dozen eggs.  In January of 2014 we ordered baby chicks. The chickens are doing quite well and we actually had our first dozen day last month (we collected 12 eggs in one day). The production has slowed a little as it’s gotten colder and days shorter but we still have an abundance of eggs. I’ve been making home made bread every few days and I love it.

I’m welcoming in 2015 with a happy heart.

I’ve chosen my word for the year: >> CULTIVATE << I will cultivate the best life I can for me and for our family and our homestead.  This year we’ll be adding bee hives to our homestead and I am SUPER excited about it. My goal is to try and grow or make as much of our own food as possible. We’re not talking doomsday preppers, we’re talking, self sufficiency.

January 1 | Good Morning 2015

POTD IMG_5770 IMG_5772 IMG_5778 IMG_5784

I’m doing a photo a day (at least through January) with Katrina Kennedy. My purpose for this project is to take more pictures that document our homesteading efforts to make into a photo book.

I will continue our monthly headshots. It is one of my favorite projects and as long as the family continues to cooperate, I’ll continue snapping!

I’m aiming to run 1000 miles in 2015. That’s about 19.25 miles a week | 2.75 miles a day (x7) | 3.2 miles a day (x6) | 3.85 miles a day (x5) | 4.8 miles a day (x4) | 5 miles 1 day a week and 3.5 x 4.

I’m going to mail cards throughout the year, just because it’s nice. I’m aiming for 52+, about one a week.

I will do a daily devotional. In the wee hours of the morning, instead of rising to facebook and email, I’ll start my day with some time dedicated to my relationship with God.

I will practice my calligraphy more. It is so relaxing and enjoyable.

I’m sure some of these resolutions will merge and intermingle and I just can’t wait to see how it all works out.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Moxie Fab Cactus

September 28th, 2014 · cardmaking, craft

Hello Friends! I spotted this little bit of cuteness thanks to my friend Jennifer Ingle asking for a challenge. I immediately decided to join in, I mean, how could I not?

I loved the colorful pots but what I really thought about was the little cactus and what it would say if it could speak?

Sorry for, You know

I created the image in Adobe Illustrator and printed it up and mounted to a card base. Super easy and cute.

Creative Blog Hop

September 8th, 2014 · scrapbook

Hello Friends! I got an email from my sweet friend Amy inviting me to participate in a modified blog hop called the Creative Blog Hop that takes place on Mondays. First I’ll share a little about me and then I’ll share two of my sweet creative friends!

1. What am I working on now?

I have never really been one big on themes but my work is certainly reflecting my life. My latest flair packs have been fitness inspired and farm animals. My latest stamp designs are Southern Sayings and Stamp Designs I created for teacher gifts for Jordan’s teachers!

IMG_6828 IMG_4865 IMG_4829 http://joscie.bigcartel.com/product/just-sayin-hey-stamp http://joscie.bigcartel.com/product/thank-ya-ll-stamp http://joscie.bigcartel.com/product/bless-your-heart-textured-st

2. How does my work differ from others in my genre?

I love monochromatic or two color combinations, simple patterns and aesthetically pleasing typography. I don’t love busy patterns that confuse my eyes (and my head). I like simple. I like to tell stories, especially if there is a deep meaning or a funny tidbit to share.

3. Why do I create what I do?

I find it easier and much more rewarding to do it myself. If I can’t find something I want, I just sit down with illustrator and figure it out.

4. How does my creative process work?

I like to brainstorm with my sketch book, list possible ideas, sketch out what I can and then go to illustrator to make it digitally real.

Here are two of my friends I’d like to share with you:

Running Addict

August 16th, 2014 · bossy Joscie, scrapbook

Hello Friends! Iʻm back with some new goodies and because, youʻll never guess what… I actually crafted. It has been way too long. I have never considered myself a runner. I have even made jokes about how nothing ran in my family but obesity or if you see me running, you better start running too because something is obviously chasing me. Back in February I started out by walking around our property. It was hard in the beginning. It started to get easier walking and I thought maybe I could run short stretches so I did. I started running a little bit longer stretches and took off around the neighborhood. My husband runs with me almost daily and I have really grown to love running! I created a set of flair to reflect my love for running, something I never thought Iʻd love.

Scout Life

July 2nd, 2014 · Family, scouting

Hello Friends! In my last post I told you that both boys have joined scouting, what I didn’t tell you is that I have wanted them to join scouting for years! Jalen was just not interested in joining. The real reason I wanted them to join was to offer them opportunities to learn things I just am not equipped to teach them. Wilderness survival skills are not my forte, unless you count watching Survivorman through squinted eyes. This past winter, the scouts came to our church as they have to our old church in years past but this year, both boys had friends who were present. I approached the leader and found out the meeting times and talked to both boys about giving scouting a try. Jalen joined a few friends of his in the boy scout troop and Jordan joined a friend in the cub scout pack. Both boys wanted to join and we went down to the scout shop and picked up books and uniforms. Here are some pictures from some of our scouting adventures!

The Biscuits Camporee

We didn’t camp out but we did go down to riverwalk stadium to watch the Montgomery Biscuits play ball. We got to walk out on the field and just had an all around great time! Jordan got to play on the inflatables too :)

Rain Gutter Regatta

The boys got to put together and decorate catamarans to race in the Rain Gutter Regatta. It was a lot of fun, Jordan did pretty well. :)

Father/Son Cake decorating contest

Troy and Jordan baked and decorated a cake to take to the Blue and Gold banquet for the contest. They didn’t win but it was delicious and looked professional ;)

Jordan Dam Tour

The cub scouts got to take a tour of Jordan dam, near our home on Lake Jordan. It was a beautiful time and quite interesting!

Camp Tukabatchee – Boy Scout Camp

Jalen went camping with his Troop, it was their largest group at camp. He learned a lot and said he had a great time.

Camp Hobbs – Webelo Resident Camp

Troy, Jordan and I joined our fellow bears at Webelo Camp. It is next door to the boy scout camp. We stayed in cabins that are not air conditioned. the week before us and the week after us were not nearly as hot as our week. It was dusty and dirty and hot but it was a great time. Jordan joined in with the boys and played. New things for both Jordan and I at camp: Shooting BB guns, archery, learning to build a fire, learning to tie knots, learning about the alabama forest, learning about poison ivy (eeps!), swimming in a lake (i did not), rowing a boat, raising the flag, and we even got to hike over to Jalen’s camp on Friday.

It has been quite an adventure so far and I’m glad we’ve joined in!

There is just no way around it

July 1st, 2014 · Alabama, bossy Joscie, Family

Hello friends. I have been a blog slacker and there just is no way around it.  I had ideas I wanted to blog but the longer I waited, the more I felt I needed to explain my absence. My last post was way back in January! Thankfully the only explanation is that life has been happening and it’s been pretty darned good. I’ve been keeping up with monthly head shots, here’s a look at us in the first half of this year!

family

What has happened since January? We had snow in central alabama. We loved playing in it. It was amazing. and cold. and lasted a few days so we could get out and play, come in and thaw out and then go back out again.

IMG_1866-Edit IMG_1852 Jalen investigates the snow.

The boys joined scouting. Jalen is a boy scout and Jordan is a cub scout. We have gone camping both with a tent and in cabins.

The boys have both finished off their first year in public school after three years of homeschooling. Both boys did really well and were on the honor roll.

IMG_3321 IMG_3319 IMG_3318 IMG_3326

Jordan also won his class spelling bee, was the 3rd grade spelling bee winner for his school and went to the county spelling bee!

Jordan receiving his AB Honor Roll ribbon from Mrs McQueen IMG_1944 Jordan and Mrs McQueen :) What an awesome teacher she was for ou

We have made lots of friends in our church and are loving all of the different groups we are joining.

IMG_4904

We ordered seeds from rareseeds.org and planted a garden. IMG_2730 IMG_3810 IMG_4651 IMG_4395 IMG_4388 IMG_4315 IMG_5557 IMG_5558 IMG_5426 IMG_5425

I started watching my diet and exercising which lead everyone in the family to eating healthier and moving more.

IMG_5173 IMG_5462 IMG_5287 IMG_5396

We ordered baby chicks through the mail. They were super cute. They grew up. We have lots of chickens.

IMG_1936 IMG_1960 IMG_2171 IMG_3486 IMG_3725 IMG_3935 IMG_5195 IMG_2866

We had a few calves that would bust out of the pasture across the street and nicknamed them #calfhoudini.

#calfhoudini comes for a visit IMG_2947

Jordan marched in the Slapout parade that welcomed home Jess Meuse from American Idol.

I’m selling personalized stamps. lots of them.

IMG_3438 IMG_3444

Jalen is officially taller than me. He grew his hair out for about a year and then cut it right before going off to boy scout camp. He just learned how to drive the tractor and starts 9th grade in a month.

We are settling into our new home quite well.

Happy 2014

January 1st, 2014 · blog

Hello and Happy New Year friends! I welcome 2014 with open arms and wishes for good health and happy hearts! I’ve been thinking about my one little word for 2014 and looking back at my words in years past.
simplify

2013: home | 2012: calm | 2011: green | 2010: focus | 2009: do it now (DIN) | 2008: diligent
This year I’ve chosen a word that I think is just right for our new home and new lifestyle. As we adopt the retired life, and start new traditions and shed some old, I’d like to refine and simplify our lives and choose what is best for our family.

I wish you a very Happy New Year!

Thank You for stopping by!
