Minty Valentines

February 9th, 2010 · DT, Peppermint Creative, scrapbook

Miss Mint has really outdone herself with all these super cute new items in her new Sweet Cheeks Elements and Papers kits.  I couldn’t help but run to the printer (that’s hyperbole, I sat as usual, but did so excitedly) hee hee.  Here are a few cards I whipped up!

I’ve already sent off my valentines to Troy in the mail a while back, so I’ll be packing up these love cards along with a few others and sending them to Operation Write Home.  Do you have cards waiting for an occaision? are you willing to whip up some non glittery cards?  They are always in need of more cards at http://www.operationwritehome.org .

I’ve also used this kit to make labels for Jordan’s preschool valentines.  His school discourages candy goody bags, encouraging good dental health and eating habits.  I created this label, printed it in multiples and die cut with nestabilities, xyroned and adhered to the lid of these super cute mini playdoh containers from target. sigh. so happy with the way they turned out! :)

aren’t they so so sweet?! I’m packaging them two to a package and tying a ribbon :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Love and Blog you later! I still have to whip up some labels and packaging for Jalen’s treats (candy all the way!) and some goodies for the teachers.  Check back for those. and some more digi goodies.

getting scrap-pea

February 7th, 2010 · DT, Two Peas in a Bucket, scrapbook

I participated in my first online crop over at twopeasinabucket on Friday night. okay, so it was friday night in the central timezone, but afternoon for me over here in paradise.  I missed the beginning because I was picking Jalen up from school. BUT, when I did get online, it was a fun, quick paced chat and scrap with some nice peas.

For Jen Martakis’ challenge I scrapped about love.  Have you heard that song by Jason Mraz and Colbie Callait?  I swear, the first time I heard it, it was like it was written for my hubbs and me.

(click on the layout to see it in the twopeas gallery)

Jen Martakis’ DigiKit – Simple Starts No. 10 , DigiKit – February , DigiKit – February Cardstocks , DigiKit – January , Kate Teague’s DigiKit – Labels Everywhere MaryAnn Wise’s DigiKit – Grungy Edges2 Water Stained Jen Allyson’s DigiKit – Study Hall – full kit

I also whipped up a hybrid layout for Jen Jockish’s Challenge: include cardboard, paint, bling and lots of pictures.

cough cough.

February 6th, 2010 · Family, Photography, scrapbook

So. after I dropped my camera, my 50mm lens would not auto focus.  I had to send it in, thankfully I purchased insurance when I bought the lens through b+h photo, whew!  I received a ups label via email, packed it up and sent it off.  while I am awaiting it’s return, i am left with my wide angle (10-22mm) an18-55mm, a 105mm macro and a monster 100-400mm.  My picture of the day project is somewhat struggling.

on January 30th, I finally took the time to take down the Christmas tree and all the other decorations.  The living room looks so plain and sparse.  I need to add more art.

January 31, the boys reading at bedtime, in my room :)

On Monday Feb 1, I finally got to meet an online friend IRL.  Tina grew up here in Hawaii and was home visiting, so we got together for what her husband called a craftmance.  I thought that was funny.  FabuLisa, Tina and I hit up Fisher, J’s Knicknacks and a quick lunch at the counter burger.

one of the 2 pictures I took on Tuesday Feb 2.  Groundhogs day ;)  Jordan was reading a book on picking apples.

Okay. so i usually go grocery shopping on Mondays but this week due to the craftmance on monday, I had to adjust to a commissary trip on Wed.  Jordan has a short day, so i had to hurry to put away the groceries before picking him up.  Obviously I hadn’t put everything away by the time I brought him home.  I walked out of the kitchen for a minute and came back to this:

Thursday, Feb 3, Jalen had an assignment to bring in 4 pictures of his favorite items on a usb flash drive, so we set up a shoot with the macro in the living room.   Jordan picked out his favorite marble to show me:

Friday February 5, I participated in my first online crop at twopeasinabucket.  I created this layout for Jen Jockish’s challenge.  Use paint, cardboard, bling, lots of pictures.

Today, Saturday February 6, We spent the day indoors, avoiding the vog.  Jordan and Jalen played a little ds, wii and watched some veggie tales today while i created the labels for Jordan’s valentine’s treats.  I still need to make a label for Jalen’s treats.

It’s been voggy around here and this past week I’ve felt a little loopy, coughy, sniffly, headachy and lost my voice.  Thankfully it’s bearable, no fever or any other yuckiness.  But I have minimized my outside time as much as possible.

So, if you follow me on twitter or are my friend on facebook, (and if you’re reading my blog, surely you should be both of the aforementioned…) you probably know I use another social media game called foursquare.  It is a locational game where you “check in” at different locations.  Each time you visit a venue you can either check in publically or “off the grid”.  If you check in the most times you are called “the mayor” of a location.  Currently I am the mayor of Hickam Commissary, the post office, the NEX, the NEX minimart, J’s, Aiea UMC, Bubba Gump, Burger King at Hickam, Fisher Hawaii, and Old Navy at Waikele.  I was also the Mayor of Target Salt Lake and Hickam AFB and the Navy Commissary, but I got messages from foursquare letting me know that others have replaced me as mayor.  I have to tell you, it’s a fun little game, but boy my competetive side has me thinking, hmmm, maybe I need to head over to hickam for something and target too while I’m at it…

Have you checked out http://clubcreatingkeepsakes.com ?  It’s a new community with an option for a premium or free membership, a gallery, a forum and a social networking community.  I have signed up and have been enjoying finding my way around over there.  And let me just say, i LOVE the new gallery over there, it is so so much easier to upload. yay!

and Did I tell you? I’m taking the pen tablet basics class over at JessicaSprague.com.  I’m enjoying it so far, and can’t wait to learn something fabulous as I know I will.  I already love the downloads we got with the first lesson.  Here’s the first layout we did for the first week’s lesson:

It’s getting late, but be on the lookout.  I have some minty projects and some pea projects to share in the next few days. and I’ll be hosting a giveaway on Valentine’s day to celebrate my 3rd blogoversary.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

welcome to the family

January 29th, 2010 · DT, Peppermint Creative, Photography, computer, scrapbook

So. do you remember a few days ago i was telling you how i have two external hard drives? where I have the same information on both?  Yes. you remember, the 10 years of digital photos, digi scrap etc… so one of those drives is an HP Personal Media Drive.  It slides into a port on my desktop computer.  It’s a 500Gig hard drive that I’ve had for several years and made the switch from my last desktop to my current desktop almost painless.  It’s also the drive we carried with the laptop to Alabama so I’d have a place to store my photos and digi scrap if I got the urge.  Two nights ago, I decided to take it upstairs with me to work on some digi scrap from bed while the boys went to sleep.  I have a set up next to my bed, a power strip for all those items that need to be plugged in.  velcro ties for all those snaky cords.  everything trying to be neat.  I set up the ehd (nicknamed L:LITTLEGIRL) on my bedside table and worked on the laptop on my bed.  at some point before I really got started, I made a slight shift in position and that sweet LITTLEGIRL slid off the table while running, and GASP, fell to the carpet. and made the most awful grinding/scraping sound ever. the kind of sound that’s wiping, no gouging your ten years of pictures. your digi scrap supplies. your digi layouts. no. my digi layouts. :( I quickly unplugged it and said a little thankyou for the fact that I have M:THEBIGGIRL.  M:THEBIGGIRL is a 1 TB external hard drive I bought last year.  She has the most of the same information on her that the L:LITTLEGIRL had.  I have lost about 10 pictures from the other day.  and a few of the edited photos. but not many. and a few of the digi kits i got this month.  When I sit here and consider what could have been lost… I am very thankful.  Yesterday I immediately went to the store and bought another 1TB drive. It’s the same one as M:THEBIGGIRL.  so i considered, as i plugged her in, what should I call you?  N:THEOTHERWOMAN didn’t fit. and N:THEOTHERGIRL didn’t fit either. but more importantly, why oh why is my desktop computer not recognizing both of my drives? what? In all the craziness, it assigned the new drive to the letter M: as well. wha?! So only one was being recognized at a time! and how am I supposed to duplicate everything from M:THEBIGGIRL to the other yet to be named drive?  insert google help.  I asked google and it told me how to reassign drive letters. it was simple and painless. and in the process I had an epiphany about my new drives.  call me obsessive if you must, but let me introduce you:

I now have M:EDWARD, N:JACOB AND G:BELLA (who goes with the laptop on a short cable)

I spent most of the day yesterday copying files from M:EDWARD to N:JACOB.  and today I’ve spent most of the day reorganizing and redownloading a few of the kits i got this past month.  I am also looking to an online service, probably mozy.

Yesterday’s picture of the day, Jalen gets out of school early on Thursdays so he got to go with me to pick up Jordan. They had a little fun time on the swings :)

Wednesday: aprons in my kitchen=happiness :)

Tuesday: a hybrid door hanger thingy.

and I have to tell you. i just dropped my (*%&(&* camera. on my 50mm. i swear. i should just work on everything on the floor.

it will get better. it will get better.

Thanks for stopping by, love love and blog you again real soon!

minty goodies

January 27th, 2010 · DT, Peppermint Creative, Photography, Silhouette, house

Miss Mint has done it again! another cute new digi release over at PeppermintCreative.com.  Here’s my layout of Jalen and Jordan laughing their heads off in church. :) (click on layout to see it in the PC gallery and for full credits)

she has also release some super cute iPhone/iTouch wall papers. I thought it would be cute to make a little slideshow to put on my iTouch and on my cell phone (you can use it on other phones too!) here’s one frame I did… I emailed it and loaded it onto my cell phone and my iTouch.  The camera polarized filter is causing Jordan’s head to look blue in the cell phone shot, but I will get a better picture later.  Cute, no?!

here are two of my latest Picture of the Day shots…  On Sunday I asked the boys where they wanted to have lunch after church and Jalen shouted out Bubba Gumps!  and Jordan said, yes, I’ll have some blue Jello with my pizza. Okay, I was sold.  I love the accidental fish and shrimp… and it was also a great excuse to get more macaro(o)ns. mmm. so good.  Here’s my big boy:

I have to say, on Monday when I was at the commissary, I grabbed a bag of coffee thinking, I think I’ll send a bag to my pal Chrispea… No reason, just because.  and on my way home from the store, i stopped off at the mailbox.  When I opened it the aroma of roasted coffee hit me. it was so yummy and i thought who is sending me coffee?!  and it was from Chrispea. How sweet is that? and along with the coffee these milk caps in a super cute little envelope and this wood block J. how awesome?! love that girl. ps. Chris is almost done with her Chemo, so if you’d like to pray or think a positive thought for her that would be awesome!

baby pictures

January 26th, 2010 · DT, Two Peas in a Bucket, scrapbook

we have nearly 10 years of digital pictures on our external hard drives.  We have two of them and the pictures are on both.  I say nearly because i have had a few computer crashes over the years where I had lost months of pictures… but we are (knock on wood) in pretty good shape these days because I try to back up regularly and often.  Jordan and I were having a discussion about one of his bears the other day:

me: Did you know this was your very first bear?

he: no

me: Aunty Paula gave it to you when you were a brand new itty bitty baby!

he: i don’t remember

me: I have pictures, do you want to see?

he: YEAH!

so i go searching.  they’re labeled in folders by year and then by month within the year. aww, what a sweet happy over exposed baby. what was I trying to blind him with the flash on my sony2 megapixel?

oh I am a happy baby. but you’re killing me with that flash mom.  you really should figure out how to take pictures with out it. but i still love you…

Okay. now I’m getting a little annoyed. I see the way you’re looking at my baby. don’t even think about it.

and this last one on the right: If you try to take my baby, I’ll knock you out! (ps, he’s a lefty too)

oh.my.gosh. we laughed so so hard when that picture came up.  which then lead into watching baby videos.  Janel was disappointed at the brevity of the videos.  I had to explain to him, sorry son, but 9 years ago, I was shooting with a Sony Mavica recording on a 1.44 floppy. I was excited to get the 15 seconds of video! hee hee. funny how times and technology change so quickly.

Tonight at bedtime, as I walked Jordan to his bed, he asked me:

Jordan: Mom when were you a baby?

me: a long time ago.

Jordan: How come you don’t have any baby pictures?

me: I do, do you want to see them?

Jordan: yes!

Jalen, shouting from his bedroom: They’re in black and white!

me: NO.THEY.ARE.NOT!

okay now. if your baby pictures are in black and white, I am not saying anything against you. but really. Jalen was serious. silly child.

so anyway. we’ve been all about the baby pictures this week and then what do I see on Two Peas Digi Tuesday?  this absolutely yummy baby boy kit.  I love the blue, green and white.  The hot air balloons and clouds? yes please.  elephants and polka dots? yes and yes please again!

It took almost all day to get this done, but here is my latest

growingUP! (click layout to see in the 2peas gallery)

recap

January 23rd, 2010 · DT, Peppermint Creative, Photography, Two Peas in a Bucket, navy life, scrapbook, sewing

I have been a sewing fool this week! I’m almost done with my aprons to send out to some friends, and I am so stoked.  I so LOVE to finish a project, don’t you?!  I’ve also done a few projects.

From Two Peas in a Bucket:

I used Erica Hernandez’s Happy Paper Pack and Wonky Photo Frames, Katherine  Teague’s Life in 365, Jen Martakis’ Snow Days Alpha and Journal Shapes.  I was so excited to see this layout featured in the Two Peas in a Bucket Newsletter!

From Peppermint Creative:

I cut out Tay’s Love one Another commercial vector on my Silhouette in black vinyl.  I mounted on the wall and added two little gems.  Just right!

Thursday’s Picture of the day, Jordan trying to blow bubbles.  This poor boy makes the FFFFFF sound when he’s blowing and can’t figure out why he never makes more than one bubble. I makes me giggle though.

Friday: haircuts for the boys at the Navy Exchange Barber Shop.  Jordan always always always giggles when they are shaving his neck.  The barber tells him, “one more time”, “one more time” and he says, you always say ‘one more time’ but you keep doing it again!  She got a good laugh out of that one.  I told him it would have been just one more time if he could be as still as a statue.

Saturday morning we woke up and made our way towards Kaneohe to have breakfast at Ihop with my mom.  Before we could get out of our neighborhood, however, I had to stop and take a snap of this beautiful sunrise.

We were lucky enough to get to skype with Troy yesterday because his ship was in port and he was able to get to a hotspot and log on with his laptop.  It was so nice to laugh and talk and see his (handsome) face!

I have to get back to my sewing, those aprons are just about done.  I will be doing a giveaway for one of the aprons, so stay tuned for that!  My yudu order came in last week and then this past week the L Letterpress kit came in so I’m looking forward to playing with those goodies too…

Thanks for stopping by, Love Love and Blog you again real soon,

I’m alive!

January 19th, 2010 · DT, Photography, Two Peas in a Bucket, scrapbook, sewing

I have spent the last week/weekend working on my desktop computer.  Some how my 1 Terabyte HD was almost full.  and I keep all my digiscrap and pictures on 2 external hard drives, so I was a bit puzzled by this.  The best I could figure is that the computer backed up my two external hard drives to my C drive.  anyway.  I reverted back to vista with my recovery disks and then installed win 7 over the new set up.  so happily, I am able to report I have 800+gig of free space on my C drive again.

Here are my pictures from the past few days…some sweet fresh strawberries over vanilla ice cream. YUM!

we made some cards to send to Troy.  For some reason, Jordan wanted to make a stop sign, sky, clouds… Martha Stewart glitter in action!

Jordan played on his DS while I continued to work on the Windows 7 install….

I finished the apron!  I love how it turned out, so I’m making more.

Today I had my regular Tuesday with FabuLisa.  We hit the post office, Fisher Hawaii (no date stamps, can you believe it?!) and then had lunch at Island Burgers (we shared a burger and a cobb salad- so yum!)  on our way back to the car I spied these Guava Macaroons. super yum.

and here’s a digi layout I did this past week with some 2Peas Goodies…

Click on layout to see it in the 2peas gallery.  my Valentine uses Shelley Castillo’s  Digi Kit Winter Walk Solids,Holly Brooke Jones’  Digi Kit Romantic Love Frames, Jen Martakis’ Digi Kit Little Bit of Pretty, MaryAnn Wise’s Digi Kit Curled Photo Frames Deckle Edge, and Brandi Buffington’s Digi Kit Destination Anywhere.

Thanks for stopping by! I’ll be back later to show the other aprons, some more digi scrap and all that goodness.

Wait, what day is it?

January 14th, 2010 · Photography

Ha.  So the days have been slipping by and in my attempt to get the new laptop and new desktop upgraded to windows 7… well, you know.  Time just keeps ticking by.  The laptop has sucessfully upgraded with no evident issues.  The desktop, however, is reacting a little strangely.  Whenever I try to download something, whether from online or the camera memory card, it starts but usually stops midway and then it appears that the external hard drives disappear.  I have checked the drivers for both hard drives but windows says the driver are current.  And windows update offers no further updates. so I’m not sure where that puts the status of the desktop.  I am hoping I can find the issue and fix it, otherwise, I may end up doing a recovery back to vista and upgrading from scratch. which might be best. we’ll see.  I am just thankful I have to laptop to use.

so.  The pictures of the day.

Last year I made this brilliant offer to make something for some people. and not so surprisingly, I never got to it in time.  So I finally started.  This will be an apron for one of my gift recipients…. I just eyeballed it, cut and started sewing. and I love it!

wide angle fun at the preschool.

and yes, again.

I’m hoping to finish up rereading  breaking dawn soon, get some digi scrap in and fix my desktop computer.  so, thanks for stopping by, and I’ll blog you again real soon!

Love Love,

Joscie, rhymes with bossy!
