journaling: We stopped in old Hilo Town to check out the cool stores on the waterfront.  We were immediately drawn to the red doors of the Sugar Coast Candy Store.  Inside, the burlap covered trashcans and black and white checkered floors welcomed us.  The old fashioned specialty candies were hard to resist and we left with smiles on our faces and sugar in our bags.

When I first did this layout, I made a typo and had to go back to my layered file and correct the mistake.  Then I started thinking, if I turned the template on it’s side, I could show more of this awesome shot… so I did.  Here is version 2.  which do you like better?

When we got to the lookout spot there was a class up there…. One of the girls in our group knew one of the teachers and I knew one of the students from church and the other teacher is a friend of a friend of ours so i thought it was funny :) also it was very convenient because they snapped this shot of all of us.  Jordan did not want to be in this picture.  I will remember to wear a hat the next time!  My friends Leigh, Marna, Kau’i, Troy, Jalen and Marna’s little cutie!

looking down from the lookout, isn’t it beautiful?! I love that aqua color in the tidepools and the shallow areas.

I got the disc of pictures from Tess Monday and I am so in love with these pictures! I can’t wait to get prints hanging on the wall and scrapped too. Thank you thank you thank you to both Tess and Operation Love.  These are a few of my favorite shots:

I really liked all the pictures but didn’t want to overload ya!  My very very favorites though are this one where we are all walking and the one of the four of us in front of the ship. :)  Thank you again Tess, you’re the best! :)

Lace Circle Cards

• I cut Laina Lamb’s Lace Circle shapes out of white flocked vinyl on my silhouette.
• weeded the vinyl (picked out the unwanted pieces)
• sprayed each shape with Glimmer Mist (Granite and Key Lime Pie)
• embossed one card back with a Paper Trey Ink Woodgrain plate
• adhered the vinyl shapes to the card backs.
• added American Crafts (Dear Lizzy) Stickers, a crocheted flower, buttons with divine twine and a Stampin’ Up! Corduroy brad with American Crafts Dimensional Adhesive.
• rounded corners.

hybrid bookmarks

• I printed Kathy Martin’s Pencil it in items on matte photo paper
• cut out the pencil with a scissors, cut the lines with a paper trimmer and punched the half circles with my cropadile
• die cut the book worm with a Spellbinders circle die and a pinked circle out of cardstock.
• embossed both bookmarks with an Impression plate from Paper Trey Ink.
• added divine twine around the half circles and tied a knot.
• adhered the printed items to the book marks
• punched holes in the top of each book mark and added divine twine.

you are so cool

a few weeks ago I downloaded this ice cream kit and made some cards.  I also printed some plain scoops to color with my copic markers.  These colorful scoops have been sitting on my paper cutter for a few weeks waiting to be put together.  I am so in love with ROYGBIV, are you?

• Each scoop is printed in black on Neenah Solar white cardstock
• colored with copic markers
• hand cut and adhered with pop dots
• Sentiment is in thickers.

I can’t wait to see what new pea products I’ll be playing with this week!  There are new designers at Two Peas Digital!  ALSO there is a call for the Two Peas in a bucket Digital Creative Team!  I hope you’ll apply!

Thurston Lava Tube

journaling: one of the best parts about staying inside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park at Kilauea Military Camp is getting a jump start on the day.  We were mostly alone while we walked around the Thurston Lava Tube.  It was quiet and beautiful.  We were able to catch this shot with our timer on the camera.

journaling: jalen’s tenth birthday was celebrated with dad’s homecoming. we bought lei, hung signs and went down to the pier.  we also went out to dinner at island burger and came home to open presents.  jalen got a microscope, slides, legos and games.

first stop, pick up lei from Lita’s Lei shop.

I got a little Puakenikeni Lei for myself. I love these flowers, they are so sweet smelling!

and since we were down in Chinatown, we headed around the corner to Char Hung Sut for Manapua (Char Siu Bao). This is our favorite place- closed on Tuesdays.

We are so thrilled to have Troy back home with us.  I mean really! Sometimes transition can be difficult, but with an intention to be considerate things go so well.  We were so lucky to have my friend Tess shoot our homecoming as a part of Operation Love and I can’t wait to get the disk of pictures so I can scrap them, share them here and order a print or two :)

We celebrated with dinner at Island Burger.

Jalen has been wanting a microscope for quite some time so for this year’s birthday present  we ordered a microscope, a set of professionally mounted slides and some plain slides and cover slips.  He was so excited when he opened it! :)  Troy and Jalen put the pieces together on Saturday and checked out some of the slides.

Granny and Pop also ordered some Lego for Jalen (and Jordan).  Most of the day Saturday was spent putting together Lego sets.

Jordan even got in on the action!  I don’t remember getting presents on my brother’s birthday, did you?

I have been so busy since we got back from vacation, catching up on projects, cleaning up and cooking again.  It’s hard after 4 or 5 days of eating out every meal to get back into the groove of getting groceries and cooking.  It sure feels good though to eat fresh food again!

I’ll be back again soon with more vacation pictures and projects!

treasure island day

journaling: After reading the book Treasure Island, Jalen’s 4th grade class painted a treasure island set.  This included a cave, a pirate ship, and an island.  The kids got to dress up in pirate gear and watch the movie treasure island and party.  may 2010.

• unbound book – When the product arrived, I was surprised to see it was an unbound book (even though it says it clearly in the description, I obviously was running low on coffee when I read that portion).

• DVD -instruction videos for watching via computer and pdf files of practice sheets.

This program breaks down the process of drawing into simple tasks.  The first task was drawing short parallel lines.  Jalen practiced with a pencil first and did pretty well but did much better when I gave him a pen to work with.  The videos were straightforward and loaded automatically to my iTunes library and we could watch via iTouch as well.  Here is Jalen’s first practice sheet:

as you move through the lessons, each one builds on the last.  Jalen’s work is the cup on the bottom where he is copying the one on top. I was really impressed with his work and he was thrilled that he was able to draw.

I like this product for teaching drawing. It is an easy and effective tool.
