We are big drinkers

journaling: of diet coke and coffee! In our beautiful state of Hawaii, we have a bottle deposit. That means with every can or bottle of soda there is a
5 cent charge at the store when you purchase (sometimes there is a 6 cent charge) and there is only a 5 cent refund when you bring it back. The bottles must be clean, empty and still have the label attached and you have to take it to a redemption center. When the law first started up, I stopped buying 12 packs of diet coke and switched to two liter bottles. It just seemed silly to pay for all those bottle deposits because at the time 2 liters were exempt from the deposit… so we simply made the switch to two liter bottles. We would still recycle the 2 liter bottles and any of the few other bottles or cans that we had. The 2 liter bottles are now a part of the deposit system and Saturday was the day we finally packed all those plastic bags into the van and down to the recycling truck.  The truck has “reverse vending” machines where you put a bottle or can in and it gives you a ticket worth money. Our redemption center gives tickets for the Navy Exchange.

journaling: the city dropped off our blue recycling bins today.  We can now recycle #1 + #2 plastics, cardboard, and aluminum cans curbside.  I am so thrilled to do our part to help reduce waste!

I used another one of Erica’s 8.5×11 Templates slightly modified for a 12×12 layout. I also used Vinnie’s Kraft Birthday Boy kit, love those stickers! I used Laina’s Borderlines for little bits of color, and yes, Kenner Road’s and Wilna’s Alphas again. LOVE them.

Journaling: In preparation for Daddy’s upcoming deployment, we celebrated Jordan’s 5th birthday a few months early. We picked up a guava chiffon cake from deelite bakery. We sang Happy Birthday and Jordan made a wish and blew out his candle.

Happy Banner

I used Laina Lamb’s Banner cuts to make this super sweet banner with my silhouette. I cut white cardstock, and 3 sheets of american crafts patterned papers and glimmer misted all pieces, strung it up with bakers twine and buttons. voila, a smile on a string :)

I am not sure if I’ll have time to make any more Pea Goodies today, Jordan came down with a cold yesterday (again) so we’re heading in to the pediatrician today.  busy, busy time this week.  I also made some super cute Minty goodies yesterday, but I have to wait until they are up in the store to share!  So come back again when you might see some Minty goodies!

Back when I first started on Miss Mint’s Hybrid team I had one layout featured on the gallerystandouts.com blog.  I was pretty excited about that but never really followed the blog. You know, so many blogs, so little maid service. ha ha. anyway.  I was rambling through some blogs last week and came across a link to gallery standouts and followed.  I added it to the many on my Google reader and a few days later, i saw my pal Amy’s LO featured there. I was like, hey that’s a cool layout Amy… and as I scrolled down, I saw my own it takes a village layout featured as well. I was pleasantly surprised.  Then two days later I saw my welcome to the family layout featured.  ps. i’m now reading the gallery standouts daily. ha.

I am SO in love with Michelle Underwood’s happy spring colors in this i heart spring kit. those trees, clouds and everything. just happy! I also LOVE Erica Hernandez’s templates. This one was a sized for 8.5×11 and I just expanded to 12×12. and Wilna’s letters, again. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of those.

Journaling: i love listening to my iTouch. I have hours and hours of music to make me smile, dance and groove through the day. it’s just a bit of happiness in my pocket!

Journaling: We bought some play-doh brand moon sand from the navy exchange the other day.  But when we opened it up, it seemed kind of gross and oily looking and it looked like it might make a mess.  So we opted for play-doh instead and used the mold on the lid of the sand container to make castle shapes.  Jordan took a little piece of left over play-doh and rolled it into a little ball and said, “this is my little friend.  He is going to watch me play.”

So, I have been wanting to document Jordan’s “friends” for a while… and yesterday my new lens came in, so I quickly snapped these pictures and scrapped them.

It takes a village: to get Jordan to sleep.  He co-slept with us as a baby, and for a little while he co-slept with Jalen, but now he goes to bed, in his own room, in his own bed, all by hims…okay, with all of his friends.

I love Erica’s 8.5×11 template converted to 12×12 for showing off so many beautiful patterned papers courtesy of Tricia Chapman. total swoon fest over all those papers!

Journaling: yesterday we welcomed this super sweet little camera to our family.  We all took pictures of each other and watched together as each one magically developed.

and last, I wanted to share this with Troy, but if you’re interested too, by all means.  Here is a shot of Jordan’s honey bear.  It’s one of the first shots I took with the new lens.  and straight out of the camera (besides putting it into the frame and resizing for the web) here it is. i love it.

and in other good news, I got an email from the lens repair company and they say my 50mm is repaired and on it’s way back to me, yay! I’ve missed you my sweet little lens!  I took all these shots with my 105mm macro, so I’m standing about 6 feet away from these projects to photograph! crazy, isn’t it!  and my other sweet new lens is on it’s way too, I can hardly wait!

The pen tablet class that I am taking over at JessicaSprague.com is in it’s final week.  I’m sad to see it coming to an end, especially since with all the sickness and busy-ness going on around here, I only finished the first week.  I am hoping to catch up on my lessons soon and hoping to figure out why my wacom intuos 3 does not play well with CS4 on my laptop.  works well with the desktop, but not the laptop. Anyway, Jessica is encouraging us to participate in the pentablet contest over at wacom, so I’m hoping to get in on that action.

Tuesday is new Digi Kit Release day over at Two Peas in a Bucket and there is a new designer named Vinnie Pearce and she’s brought a SLEW of new digi goodies to the store.  Can I just say, I seriously picked up a bunch of new kits today. Jen Martakis, Wilna Furstenburg, Tricia Chapman, Vinnie Pearce. now that it’s all downloaded, unzipped, backed up on all the drives and I’ve blogged these cards I can get my digiscrap on.

on a personal note, we got news last week that Troy’s deployment is being extended a month, boo!  The boys are crushed.  The good news, the ship was in port so we got a chance to skype with Troy.  It is such a blessing to see his handsome face and hear him laugh (and make him laugh).  We read books, we showed off new items/school work. so many kinds of awesome.  Troy’s birthday is coming up in a few days and I encouraged him to pick up a birthday present for himself at the exchange.  I had wanted to get him something good, but didn’t really want to trust it to the mail, no offense USPS, you know I love you- see the title of this post? anyway, he got an iTouch so he can now watch all the movies/listen to music/read books via Kindle app, so we’re stoked about that too.

journaling: we had so much fun blowing bubbles on the driveway today.  You really had me giggling though, because you couldn’t really figure out why you were having such a hard time with the bubbles.  You were blowing with a ffffff sound and I thought you were so cute!

Journaling: jalen’s computer teacher asked him to bring in a flash drive with pictures of 4 of his favorite items.  They could not be video games.  Jalen chose a book, Herbert’s Wormhole, his Mancala Game, a Chess set Dad got him in Singpore and a new Lego power-miner.

Journaling: Normally, I would consider 9 years old a little young for a cellphone.  But this year, Jalen and Jordan started at different schools running on different schedules.  With only one parent driving in high traffic areas, I wanted to be sure that I could call Jalen on a cellphone if I was running late or just needed to give him a call.  His 9th birthday was coming up right before the start of school so we jumped in and picked up a cute phone.  I tried to teach him how to text, but the phone did not have a keyboard and it was a lot of work.  I took it back and exchanged it for a phone with a camera and a keyboard so he could text and email pictures easily. It turned out that phones were not allowed at his new school, but I decided to let him keep the phone anyway. he is allowed to text and send pictures to dad while he is deployed.  It has been a great tool to help keep Troy in our daily routine.

journaling: We stopped off at the antique mall in town. It was the first time I had been in there, and I was immediately sucked in. I fell in love with this 10ft long church pew (for $250). I really wanted it, but 1. how would i get it back to the house, 2. where could I put it? 3. how would I pay for it. Obviously, it stayed there. but look at it in all it’s glory. ha. i also drooled over the tobacco desk, the wooden/glass umbrella store case, the curio cabinet, the old sewing machine with wooden case. amd the typewriter, oh the typewriter. We finally walked out of the antique store with two stamps and a wooden Coke case (2+ hours later) It was so nice walking around with Troy.
