Thurston Lava Tube

journaling: one of the best parts about staying inside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park at Kilauea Military Camp is getting a jump start on the day.  We were mostly alone while we walked around the Thurston Lava Tube.  It was quiet and beautiful.  We were able to catch this shot with our timer on the camera.

journaling: jalen’s tenth birthday was celebrated with dad’s homecoming. we bought lei, hung signs and went down to the pier.  we also went out to dinner at island burger and came home to open presents.  jalen got a microscope, slides, legos and games.

treasure island day

journaling: After reading the book Treasure Island, Jalen’s 4th grade class painted a treasure island set.  This included a cave, a pirate ship, and an island.  The kids got to dress up in pirate gear and watch the movie treasure island and party.  may 2010.

Journaling: I like to play a social networking game using my GPS enabled smart phone called foursquare.  I “check in” via the app on my phone whenever I go places.  If you check in the most, you become the “mayor” of a place.  One of my mayorships is at the Post Office.  I am there quite often sending packages to Troy, Kam or other friends across the globe.

When I saw Kathy’s ice cream cone shape I knew they’d be cute as patterned paper scoops.  Tricia Chapman’s Posh Baby Girl Papers fit the bill! I printed and hand cut.  added cardstock letters, some glitter on the letters and a swirl of divine twine to frame it up.

Journaling: some days it feels like it was just yesterday that I had one little baby.  then I had a five year old and a baby. and now I have an almost ten year old and a five year old.  I’m afraid to blink and find myself at high school graduation.

This layout came together easily, thanks to Erica’s template.  I love the graphic feel of Erica’s templates.  I simply went back and pulled a few pictures of Jalen through the past few years, added some gorgeous patterns by Shelley and journaling, easy peasy!

PeeWee Bowling

Journaling: Jalen loved his Saturday mornings spent down at the bowling center for PeeWee bowling league.  One of his favorite things to do was to lean into the fan and let his hair blow up.

Journaling:  We had to take Jordan in to the emergency room with a high fever and a suspected ear infection.  We sat for a long time waiting to be seen.  It’s always an adventure waiting in the Emergency Room at Tripler.

HomePort Pearl Harbor

Journaling:  We wanted to move back to Pearl Harbor so we called for orders but the detailer said there was nothing available.  We were so excited to get a call from my mom to tell us about a story in the local newspaper.  A brand new ship was being built an ddue to be homeported in Pearl Harbor.  We called the detailer and got assigned to the USS Chafee.  Troy spent 6 months in San Diego, CA with the pre-com unit and then in February 2003, Jalen, Troy and I moved to Bath, ME to finish up the Pre-Com work.  In the summer of 2003, Jalen and I moved home to Hawaii and in December of 2003 we were so excited to welcome the USS Chafee to its new homeport in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Cars Fanatics

Journaling:  Today we got to meet Lighting McQueen and TowMater from the movie Cars.  It was so exciting. The cars were super cute.  We planned to be in the right spot and the right time today and were able to casually say to the boys, Oh look, who is that?!  The boys have watched the movie so many times.  Jalen has been walking around with a little hook on a string saying he was the world’s best backwards walker and Jordan has been screaming over the Ghost Light.  August 2007

I got a message on Facebook a week or so ago from my pal Allie asking if I had seen the latest Creating Keepsakes yet… and I said no, why??? well guess what? The super cool Megan Hoeppner has a cute little minibook showcasing her iPhone photos that she’s posted on Facebook and she prints her friends’ comments and puts it in the mini book. and guess what? I was right there in teeny tiny print saying how I thought it was “so pretty! :)” . Here is a link to a blog post about this article. I was excited to see it, and it made me giggle and reminisce about the first time I was in Creating Keepsakes, on a layout by my friend Noel about her CKMB pals.  Jalen and I were in an avatar on her page ;)

I got a direct message on Twitter from someone with Imaginisce offering to send me some goodies to play with.  I just got an email with tracking information, and I’m super excited to get those goodies!
