I hope you all had a great 4th of July holiday weekend!  The boys and I hit up the community pool on Sunday and had some fun splashing around.  It has been far too long since we’ve all been healthy at the same time on a sunny day.  It was a lot of fun.  I decided not to drag the boys out to our regular fireworks watching routine this year as the show doesn’t start until 9 pm and I just don’t like going out at night with out Troy.  Instead we watched a few different shows, right out Jordan’s bedroom window, it was quite nice.  On Saturday we went to the movies.  I saw Eclipse with my sister in law, Melissa, while the boys watched Toy Story 3 with my mom.  It was so nice to be able to watch an adult movie and not have to worry about the boys.  I loved Eclipse.  In fact, I think it was the best of the series so far.

We are down to one month until homecoming, yay yay yay!

I’d like to share the latest two peas layouts I’ve created.  I picked up two super cute kits last week Tuesday at Two peas.  The first one was by Michelle Underwood called the smile you give.  I always love Michelle’s feminine, sweet kits.  Since I don’t have daughters, I scrapped a picture of myself.  I have been reading a lot lately on my kindle app for the iTouch. I lOVE it!  most recently I’ve read the percy jackson series, the traveling pants series and the curious incident of the dog in the night.

The second kit I picked up was from Kerry’d Away Designs called candy apple.  I must tell you, i had been working on this layout for about an hour and kept saying to myself, you really should do a save as, so you don’t ruin this paper… and as I was closing windows in ps (ctrl w is my fave) I accidently closed the window with the layout in it and instead of clicking cancel, I clicked do not save. D’OH!  so this is the second attempt at the layout with this kit.  These pictures are of Jordan and his friend Ryan from preschool… two hams, I love it!

For this week’s kits, I chose Jen Martakis’ SUNday kit and Shimelle’s you are AMAZING template/alpha kit.  I absolutely love the painted newspaper in jen’s kit and the alphas in Shimelle’s. so so awesome.  This is a layout of Jordan on Preschool Graduation day.  I took the journaling straight from the blog post that day, so so convenient to have that info to use as journaling.

Jalen made me a treasure box in school.  They painted and added gemstones to the top.  He filled it with gold coins (they are studying Treasure Island in school) and a kit kat (his favorite candy) and a bag of arare (one of my favorite snacks).  *aww, happy sigh, again*

I got a card in the mail last week or the week before from Troy. :)  A big surprise from my pal FabuLisa and her daughter Savannah.  They stopped by in the afternoon to bring me a gorgeous flowering plant (kalanchoes, so pretty!). and a bag of bite sized cookies too! :)

I’ve been continuing my research on the homeschool front.  I picked up a few kindle books on how to choose your curriculum and styles of homeschooling and I’m pretty excited.  I hear that Hawaii is a homeschool friendly state.  I am going to file a form with the local school to let them know we’re homeschooling.  We have to show our accomplishments and Jalen has to participate in testing, either with the local school (for free) or by private tester (at our cost).  Not decided which way we’ll go on that yet.  There are local homeschool groups here that I am looking forward to meeting with and a conference next month.  I am very excited about our prospects.  Although taking on their schooling is a great responsibility, really, so is parenting.

We are winding down in our current schools, Jordan has 2 more weeks and Jalen has 3 more weeks.  Because I am a SAHM, I get to go to most field trips and class activities.  I am at the school with my camera quite a bit and like to share my pictures with other parents.  So for the end of the year, I am compiling pictures on DVDs and giving them out to fellow parents.  I’ve created a tutorial on how to create personalized cd envelopes over at DHD: tutorial. I created this cd envelope template.  It *just* fits on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.  I have a .jpg and a .gsd if you’d like it: cdenvelope

Glass Bottomed Boat

journaling: Jordan’s Preschool class took a field trip to the Glass Bottomed Boat in Kaneohe Bay.  It was a beautiful day, bright sun and calm seas.  The guide told us about different types of coral and fish that we might see.  We looked through the Plexiglas windows in the bottom of the boat.  We also had the opportunity to feed the fish some bread crumbs.   We also saw a few sea turtles.  It was a beautiful trip.  No one got sick, no one got hurt and no one fell overboard.  Success! It was finally my turn to issue a scrappy challenge over at Two Peas.  My challenge, which closes on Tuesday, is to document a day in your life.  It can be as extensive or brief as you like.  I used my pictures from last week Monday’s a week in the life to document an ordinary day in our life.  and I know, grammatically it should probably be a day in our lives, but really, it seems as though there is only one life and we all share it- but I digress.  I started with the morning coffee, followed through breakfast, lunches, drive time, my work, my lunch, pick ups, activities, dinner and ended with bedtime.  I love these coordinated bright papers by Tricia Chapman, and kept it pretty simple by using a grid pattern with frames by Jen Martakis.

and I wanted to share this card that I got in the mail. I have a pal Tina, who is from Hawaii but lives in Washington.  We “met” after Noel took Flat Joscie for a visit to her LSS.  Tina came by my blog and we’ve been online pals ever since.  On her last trip home, we were able to hook up for a craft-mance, as her DH called it. hee hee! Tina, FabuLisa and I hit a few shops and enjoyed counter burgers together, it was a great estrogen-fest!  But anyway. She won a give away on my blog a while back and sent me this stunningly gorgeous card. I LOVE IT!  check it, isn’t she awesome?!

Journaling:  Jordan’s class planted some seeds at school the other day.  His teacher did not tell us what kind of plant it is.  Our only instructions were to remind our preschoolers that it is their kuleana *responsibility* to take card of this plant.  We have to take it back to school in a few weeks.  We are enjoying watching it grow!

I love these bracket masks by Vinnie Pearce! You can use them for digital clipping masks, or import them into the silhouette software like I did and cut the shapes. just a little layout to document how I am ALWAYS early to pick up the boys from school. Journaling:  I am always nervous about being late for pickups at school, so I always plan to arrive atleast 15 minutes before dismissal.  I figure I can spend those last few minutes reading on my kindle app for the iTouch.  It makes me happy to know that YOU know, I will be there at the end of your day.

I was both inspired by a tone on tone white card or layout I saw a month or more ago in the gallery @twopeas (http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=1595385)and by Laina’s super cute die cut frame shapes. I cut one set of labels in the same white textured cardstock that I made the mini book out of. I lOVE how it came out. I printed a few family shots in b/w and added the title in white vinyl thickers. sewed up with some divine twine. will be sending this overseas to Troy :) Favorite Frames 2 by Laina Lamb

Personal notes.  This Sunday was Jalen’s first time to be an acolyte in our Church Service.  He has been waiting for a while to be old enough to volunteer and this Sunday was finally it.  We woke up early and got dressed, made breakfast, and finished up our routine.  We were so early, the boys sat down to play and I sat down at the computer to work on some digi stuff.  before you know it, it was 9 am, perfect time to leave and make it with time to spare. I was happy, especially after the last two weeks of running in almost late!  so the boys got in the car and I scrambled to grab my camera, put it into a big bag, although not my usual camera bag. Grabbed a snack for Jordan and a bottle of water *that was prepacked, just had to get it in the bag. then transferring my wallet, Touch and looking for my cell phone. oh and lip gloss. and grabbing my coffee cup. where is that dang cell phone?  Jalen walks back into the house, Mom, are you looking for your cell phone? Jordan has it. ugh! i glance at the clock and it is now 9:20. <sarcasm> GREAT!</sarcasm> there went our lead time. we’re supposed to be at the church already!  so I get in the car, and we jet to the church. Jalen runs in and gets the robes on and Jordan and I are getting into our regular seats… and here they come.  Now let me say, in my mind, the past acolytes have been kids.  I’m thinking Jalen’s going to be looking like a big boy.  I hope he’s not nervous… and they walk in.  The two in the front are a brother and sister and they are highschoolers carrying the candle things… and Jalen carrying the bible, just looks tiny. like a little kid. and the Big BOOK, put up a little struggle with Jalen, but thankfully he did NOT lose his grip… and he takes his seat in the front row and now Jordan notices, hey Mom, why is Jalen helping out up there!  :)  I’m happy to further report that Jordan went to Sunday school with no incident and Jalen performed his other acolyte duties without any troubles.   He gets to do it again one time next month, and I couldn’t be prouder!

I am going to document my week along with every other scrapbooker on the planet… hee hee!  I really enjoyed the last time with Ali, so I figured why not?

I so love Jen Martakis’ April kit, especially the scratchy looking papers in yellow and gray. I used Laina’s Borderlines 5 to cut the bracket edge on Jen’s papers in my silhouette. Hybrids are so easy in 8.5×11, I printed my journaling right on my background paper.  The alphas are thickers, the corduroy brad is from stampin’ up!  and those little legos are stuck on with mini glue dots ;)

I picked up a few cute digital cutter files from Laina Lamb again this week, so I’ll be working with those…

more exciting news: I’ve been invited to join the designhousedigital.com Hybrid Creative team.  I’ll be making a few hybrid projects a month and posting them over there and here.  I’m super excited to be working with those lovely creative peeps over there!  I’ll let you know when my first project(s) are up!

and a few last bits on the personal front.  I have been wanting to get my hair cut for quite a while now.  It’s been long and quite a hassle. I swear it would take me atleast 20 minutes to wash, condition and rinse all that hair. Not to mention all the hair I have to vacuum up around here.  I was also inspired by Megan to just get it done and donate it to Locks of Love.  You’ve probably heard of the organization, they accept donations of hair to make hair pieces for children who have lost their hair whether through alopecia or cancer or whatever situation.  I took the boys to the Navy Exchange to get their hair cut today and I thought I’d stop by and make an appointment to get my hair cut tomorrow while they are at school.  When I walked into the salon, they had an appointment, so i let the boys watch Veggie Tales Jonah on the touch while I got my hair cut.  Who knew I could take them with me?! Atleast now I know I’ll be able to get my hair cut during the summer (no school usually means no appointments for me).  So the girl that cut my hair was super super sweet and she measured the hair to make sure it was long enough… and it was. She cut off 12″ and then proceeded to give me a new look.
