Operation Write Home Memorial Day Blog Hop!

May 29th, 2010 · 67 Comments · cardmaking, navy life

Aloha and welcome to my little internet home!  Today I’m blog hopping with about 150 other bloggers to spread the message of Operation Write Home.

If’ you’ve come over from Shelley’s Creations , you’re in the right place ;)  If you’ve joined midway, please do start at the top of the hop!  and I’ll see you when you hop back around my way!

My name is Joscelyne Cutchens, but I go by Joscie, and that coincidentally rhymes with bossy.  My husband is a warrant officer in the Navy and currently midway through a deployment.  We live in Honolulu, HI.  We have 2 sons who have also been dealing with difficulties that come with deployments.  In fact, I was looking at some homecoming pictures this week and wanted to share– you can see our boys growing up through these pictures.

When we first moved back to the islands in 2003, Troy was on a new ship being home ported here in Pearl Harbor.

Our first deployment/homecoming with 2 kids 2005:

Next homecoming: 2008

Next homecoming: 2009

Also in our family, my dad was in the Army, my step dad in the Marines, 2 step brothers in Marines and one is now in the army, My mother in law and father in law both were in the Air Force.

Although we can communicate via email, we also LOVE to get cards in the mail.  The boys love to read and reread cards from Dad.  This is why I like to make cards to send to Operation Write Home.  I have a few red white and  blue missing you cards to share…

Are you thinking, WOW-that’s cool, how can I help?  It’s very easy! You can make cards and send them in!

what? you’re not crafty?  that’s okay, you can also make a contribution to help cover shipping costs!

To thank you for stopping by, I’m giving away a Hawaiian Prize Pack!  Please leave me a comment and tell me something about you!  I’ll draw a random winner on Tuesday.

Thanks for stopping by, Love Love and Blog you later,

Joscie, rhymes with bossy

your next stop is: Peggy at The Wired Angel

WOW- your family pictures are beautiful and your cards are fabulous!! I envy you living in Hawaii but not your frequent family separations.

I spent a month in Honolulu in 2004, visiting my brother who was assigned there for the State Department. I fell totally in love with everything Hawaiian- the language, the music, the culture and especially the people. I now remind myself of Hawaii by making miniature Hawaiian quilts. And, my students loved it this year when I wore a Hawaiian gown to the Prom.

I’m a great fan of your’s at two peas, I’m glad I found your blog.

Thank you for all you, your children and your husband are giving to our country and our freedom. I know it is very hard as a child. I grew up a child of USAF dad. Dad was deployed in Vietnam and Fuji and I missed him so much. I know it was hard on mom because I was a handful. Dad also did what we called TDY alot due to his job within the Air Force. Sometimes I would wake up and dad would be gone and we would not hear from him for weeks. As hard as it was and how much I missed him, I’ve always been more than proud of my dad! He gave up a lot to service our country. I know that beccause he loved us very much. Thanks for letting me share!

I, too, am a VET and have many family members who have served. One neice has just returned from Bagram AB that was recently in the news for the surprise attack on them. She literally had just left to come home when the attack happened. Thank God she is safe.
Thank you for your efforts and your inspiration to all of us safely here at home.

    Hi Joscie Sweetie…
I am Country Wings from Phoenix. I absolutely love your card creations. Any one of the soldiers would be so thrilled to receive one of these. I especially love the butterfly, as they are near and dear to my heart.

You asked us to share something about ourselves with you. Last October I lost my neice to cancer. She adored butterflies so everything I create, I try to add one, as that way she stays alive in my heart. Thank you for the beautiful card you shared, I felt as though she was smiling the whole time.

I have never made a card, but have been so inspired to create following this blog hop. You are all so creative. I can hardly wait to get started. I have been on home rest for a month and have 2 more weeks before discussing allowing me outside again. I have been sick with my lungs and chronic asthma. I have not been outside except for Dr. appointments and spent 8 days in the hospital. This is something I can create from my recliner, so I am so excited to give it a try. I have made up my mind that somewhere on each card, I will be adding a butterfly so that my Amy Girl is helping out too. It would make her so happy. She loved people and was so patriotic. This will be the first 4th of July without her. She loved the fireworks too, so this gives me many ideas to work with.

Thank you for inspiring me. Please stop by and say hi. I love meeting new friends and would be so honored if you stopped by.

    Country hugs sweetie…Sherry

Hi Joscie – thank you for sharing the ‘growing through deployment’ pictures of your precious family. Bless you.
My dad (gone 10 years now) served in the Marines (long before I was born) and as I understand it, he taught swimming when he was stationed in Hawaii. I am a member of the Civil Air Patrol – have you heard of it? We are the ‘official auxiliary of the USAF’ – our three missions are emergency services, cadet programs and aerospace education – all my kids and my husband and I are in the organization – I used to fly alot more than I do now that I moved to California, now I am the editor of our Wing magazine. I didn’t know much about military ways until I joined CAP, now I understand a little more and appreciate the troops SO much more!!

  • Kim

Thanks for sharing your story. I love your CAS cards. I love Hawaii. We were stationed there for 3 years. Such a beautiful place.
