Sweet Home Alabama

December 20th, 2009 · 7 Comments · Family, Hawaii

We’ve been considering getting a blu ray player to go with our living room tv. It wasn’t on a short list or anything like that, but we have been considering it lately . and then on Saturday our DVD player broke (and now the priority is moving up the list). I don’t know what happened, but it’s completely dead now. and the night before that Troy’s laptop died, kind of reminiscent of the Zip Drive Click Death… He tried to replace the hard drive, but that did nothing. So now it’s sitting on the floor, pitifully broken.

We’re heading to Troy’s home town for a quick visit with his family. and of course, I’ll be taking pictures, pictures, pictures. and filling up my little memory sticks. (actually they are compact flash, but you know what I mean) We picked up a new laptop for a great deal and thankfully it was also scratch ticket weekend at the Navy Exchange, so we also got an additional 5% off. Score!

Okay, so I started this post in Hawaii, but with all the excitement that is packing and checking in and finishing up the last day of schoooool…. We’re now checking in from Alabama. Hold on tight and I’ll give you a quick update.

Friday we packed and checked our bags in early, it is so nice to live near the airport! My mom met us for a Chinese food dinner and then took us to the airport around 8:30 that night. Going through security, I got stopped at the scanner. The TSA agent asks, is this your bag? I say, yes. She says, do you have a stapler in here? I am thinking, it’s actually a tim holtz mini attacher… but I say yes. She says, do you mind if I open your bag to get a better look? I say, go ahead. so she pokes around and gets the items they want to scan further. and when she’s convinced we’re okay, she asks me if I would like any help repacking my items? and I’m just thinking, uh no, but you can take your non latex blue gloves off my stuff thanks. but I just say, No thanks, have a nice night. Jalen was laughing, like why do you have a stapler in your bag? I’m all, hello?! I’m a scrapbooker. and I didn’t thing the ATG would stand the trip in my carry-on. heee. I’m sure you understand. I was having anxiety thinking about traveling without my crafty goods.

We made it to our gate with plenty of time to relax and wait for boarding. I did think it was a bit cool out in the wind that night. surely it was like 74 or something. I carefully arranged our seats to be 2+2 this time instead of the usual 3+1. because we all know who was in the 3 and who was in the 1. We let Jordan pick which parent he wanted to sit with, and he chose me. The first leg was Honolulu to Denver, CO, an overnight trip from 11:00pm to (4amHawaiitime) 7am. During that time, Jalen got sick 3 times (luckily not on himself) and Jordan had 1 good one, all over his clothes. Thankfully I am usually pretty well prepared and we had a complete change of clothes on hand. The kind flight crew provided us with a plastic bag and we well all okay for the rest of the flight. When I booked the flight, I thought this would be our first flight through Denver, CO. I was pretty excited to see it and was just convinced there would be snow out the window for the boys to see. I was wrong on both of those points. As we got off the plane, I mentioned how, this airport looked familiar, didn’t it? Troy says, a lot of airports look the same. I say, hmmm I think it looks like Newark, NJ airport, as we board the moving sidewalk (possible one of the greatest inventions ever). and as I continue to look around, I’m thinking, I’m pretty sure we’ve been to this airport before… as we turn the corner and see the McDonalds and the Crocs store upstairs, we have been to this airport before. In 2007 on our way to Disney World we flew through Denver. D’oH! and on the second point? There was so much snow on the mountains (WOW, so beautiful) there was like no snow anywhere else! We enjoyed our 2+hour layover, got some breakfast and sat gateside for our next flight.

Troy fixed his mom’s wireless router and got our phones and iTouch up on the wireless… forget about the actual cell phones because hey, T-mobile, we could use a tower out here. I feel so disconnected without cell service. anyway. every one was up and running. except.my.laptop. evidently Norton and Linksys don’t get along very well. Troy spent probably 4 hours on the phone with tech support over at HP. but now my laptop, avast and my Mother in Law’s wireless are all getting along fabulously! :)

here’s a sneak peek of what it looks like around here shot with the camera phone:

I’m hoping to get out and get some pictures of the cotton fields and all the pretty things around here, some crafty shopping at Joanns, HobbyLobby, Michaels, etc. WHeeeeee!

Today I put together a little alabama trip mini book that I’ll be filling during this trip. I hope you’re doing well out there!

Love Love and Bama Blog you later! :)
