Have you seen that staples commercial? I don’t usually watch a lot of tv, but I caught a staples commercial the other day where a parent is back to school shopping, dancing around to the tune of it’s the most wonderful time of the year… I bust out laughing at that one. I’m sure I’ve seen it before, but it was still funny to me. It seems as though I’ve been both dreading and looking forward to the new school year, if that’s even sanely possible.
Monday was Jalen’s first day at his new school, so on Sunday night we did a uniform check. shorts, check. shirt check. belt, uh, where is that belt? Looking high and low… I finally found it in the backpack with the loads of school supplies we were to carry into the classroom on Monday morning. I cut off the tags and made him try it on. Jalen says it fits. I look. Son, if you have to use the last hole, it doesn’t fit. Okay, technically it does fit, but I don’t like the look of it. Hey, look at this other belt you have in your closet, try this web belt on. Thankfully that one fit, both the waist and the uniform standard, whew! On Monday morning we drove to the school, armed with all the supplies on the list and headed into the classroom.
that’s Jalen’s desk with the red target bag full of notebooks! There are 20 students in the class, 3 of them girls. Here is a shot with his teacher:
So far we’re doing well with getting Jalen to school as early as allowable and Jordan to school right on time (although struggling for parking at his school) and I’m just hoping it’ll start to feel like a routine and less like a big ball of stress. I am not a fan of being late. We also took Flat Troy to visit Jordan’s classroom. Jordan cheesing it up with Dad outside the class:
Introducing Flat Dad to Aunty Chris:
Jordan wanted to show flat dad some of his favorite toys. These are from the water table outside:
These are a puzzle with different textures and you have to match the bases with the pegs:
these are kind of blurry, sorry, but they are cool velcro blocks.
we also showed flat dad our morning work:
I thought it was really funny that the kids have flat versions of themselves to put up for attendance. Flat Dad visited Flat Jordan:
one of the bookshelves in the classroom:
can you guess the book I liked? hee hee! and my two favorites from the day, there are two pair of creepy/cool glasses in the room.
two last tidbits. we played hi ho cherry o the other night with flat dad:
would you believe, he won?!
thanks for stopping by! I am working on my time management skills as I have so many things floating around, not getting done. I am trying to embrace that saying I said at the beginning of the year, I will do it now (DIN DIN!) I have more pictures from Troy’s last two port stops and I will work on getting those up and all my scrappy stuff is feeling neglected. I think I am going to stay up late tonight and work on it!
Love Love and Blog you later!

I love the classroom pics. Looks like Jordan is loving school. Is Jalen in 4th grade now? Oh and seeing the way Jalen’s class is stacked I don’t feel as bad now only having 5 girls! (& 16 boys!)
I love the staples commercials too. (my husband works for staples corporate, so we are always glad to see the company come up with funny ones). The kids and I really like the one where the teenage boy spells out BOOGER on the expensive calculator. Glad to know someone is laughing with me. he he :) (hope it was okay to post a comment, I follow your scrapping:))
I love that Staples commercial!! Too funny!
I think it is awesome that the school has “Flat” versions each student for attendance! Probably makes him feel right at home.
Loved the blog! Hope Jalen likes his new school. What are you folks doing for the summer break? I’m dreading trying to fill the two months of summer already and it’s only september.
Oh well. Keep up the handy hints and the Flat Troy is so cute! Aloha, Diane W.
