My boys both love super mario brothers. In an attempt to help them personalize their mostly undecorated rooms, I offered Jalen the opportunity to have Super Mario Brothers removable vinyl on his wall. I love my silhouette, paired with photoshop and an almost unending supply of free graphics to make your own designs. We have purchased rolls of Oracal 631 repositionable vinyl and mounting tape from signwarehouse.com in the past and love it. So about a zillion months ago I checked out images for super paper mario and friends to get ideas for cutting. I went as far as to cut them out, weed the vinyl (remove unwanted portions) and apply the mounting tape. all that was left was to actually mount them to the wall. Sounds fairly simple, right? evidently the woman formerly known as the queen of procrastination could not pull it off. they sat in my closet for a looong time sorely neglected. Fast forward to last week. I was at Sam’s club and saw the coolest Star Wars kites in the store. surely the boys would love to have those monster things hanging from their ceilings, right? then I don’t even have to fool with Mario and friends…. I gave out the kites for Valentines Day, because really, what says I love you more than a 3ft+ Millenium Falcon, right? (and X wing fighter) But Jalen says, I still would like Mario on my wall. DOH! okay, son. So I thought, You know, i bought more of those canvases than I needed for my room (surprise, right?) thinking I could do something for the boys… so what if I put the vinyl on the canvas and paint around it?~! and thus was born my President’s Day Project.
Here is the vinyl waiting for attention.

vinyl mounted on canvas:

So I painted the outside first, then colored in… removed the vinyl and painted with black acrylic paint. I know it’s not perfect, but I’m pretty happy with them :)

Super Luigi (I know I painted him a different color than he should have been!)

Bowser: I used my black copic brush tip marker. much more precise than paint brush. Love my copics!

and then these two I sketched on the canvas with the black copic and then filled in the paint. You can tell I did ‘em without a copied outline, but I like these little mushrooms anyway! :) The green is 1up (extra life) and the red is super (power up)! :)

Now I know after looking at those you’re thinking I’ll have a picture of them all mounted on the wall, right? ha! don’t hold your breath! The paint is still drying and then I have to mount. I just had to share… :)
I hope you enjoyed! I’ll have some exciting new news to share soon too! I’ll be back again soon!
