I love going on field trips with my kids and their school. It’s partly because I am a paranoid control freak that doesn’t completely trust my children to the care of strangers… and partly because it’s just fun to hang out with them. I am so thankful that I get to go on these field trips. Today’s field trip was to a “Discover Recycling” fair and the Blaisdell Center downtown. There were lots of schools. I mean. school busses lined up all in a row. I was about to take a picture and these people stepped in the shot and then there was a steady stream of people so I never got the shot. but there were busses lined up a city block. We were split into groups 2 kids per parent and Jalen and I were with Sean.
There were giveaways ranging from recycled notepads, pencils made from recycled paper, booths with recycled items and the new products. and a quiz to fill out with prizes for a completed quiz.
can you guess what this is?
it’s recycled sneakers. the bottoms are ground up and reformed into playground padding… isn’t that cool?
They also had some recycled art. this chair was so awesome. i love the wings.
you know how much i love aprons… how about an apron made from recycled plastic bags?!
arizona tea hat/purse/dress anyone? okay, so i wouldn’t wear it, but I so LOVEd the pink crystals on the tea dress… the colors were awesome.
a pallet cube of plastic bottles ready for recycling…
can you guess what this is?
how about this?
The green was broken up Heineken bottles, the second is shredded up clear plastic (water bottles) and the far one is shredded aluminum cans.
A group shot…
so anyway, my two kids were neither hurt nor lost, so i fulfilled my chaperone duty successfully. Can I say it was a madhouse of kids of many age range. middle schoolers trampling and crowding the shorter 2nd/3rd grade group. That was completely not fun. but the field trip itself was interesting and I enjoyed spending time with Jalen. When we came back from the field trip, Jordan was already in afterschool care eating lunch and getting ready for nap, so i got to run some errands afterschool. I am always worn out after the field trip. I think its the constant state of hyper vigilance that does me in. I did get to squeeze in a quick trip to stamps and memories. it’s been tooo long. guess what. i found mini pompom trim. oh the lovelyness of it. i was so thrilled!
Guess what else is thrilling me. I got an email from the ever fabulous Karla Dudley inviting me to be on her personal Digi Design team. How AWESOME is that?! only super awesome, that’s how! You can see her goodies at afterfivedesigns.com here…
I hope you’re all doing fabulously! I got a sweet blog lovey from Noel Culbertson, I’ll get to that tomorrow… but a Happy Birthday Shout to her Stan the man!
I think this is going to be the end for now, I need to get my littles to bed now, so until tomorrow… Keep safe!
Love Love and Blog you later!
Joscie, rhymes with bossy

I can believe it…that you were tired from being vigilant…I am exactly the same :o) It sounds as if it was a worthy outing though…not only was it a load of fun, but educational too. (The ground up soles of the sneakers really surprised me.)
Oh J!…I am so proud of you being chosen by Karla to be on her DT….she is lucky to have you!
Her digi stuff ROCKS!!

Gosh, sounds like it was an awesome trip. I love making art out of free stuff or “junk.” It’s great to recycle and what a lesson for the younger generation.
I know what you mean. When my Josh was little, (he’s now 24), his pre-school class when on short airplane rides. Two children, an adult, and the pilot. I went along on the trip, but had no interest in an airplane ride. But when I saw my little guy walking across the runway to get on that plane with his buddy, that was all it took! He was not getting on that plane without is Mommy! And I haven’t been on a plane since!!
Wow, love that place!
Joscie, your boys are sooooo adorable! That sounds like an amazing place to visit…I would have loved it! I’m pretty sure I owned one of those can hats in the 70′s. I remember my aunt and uncle sold them at their campground in MI. LOL! ;) Congrats on your new team! I’m going to have to go check out that new site!
