Did you know I am a big drinker?

April 27th, 2008 · 10 Comments · Uncategorized

Ha, drinker of coffee and diet coke. big 2 liter bottles. I don’t know about where you live, but in our beautiful state of Hawaii, we have a bottle deposit. That means with every can or bottle of soda there is a 5 cent charge at the store when you purchase (sometimes there is a 6 cent charge) and there is only a 5 cent refund when you bring it back. the bottles must be clean and empty and still have the label attached and you have to take it to a redemption center. When the law first started up, I stopped buying 12 packs of diet coke and switched to two liter bottles. It just seemed silly to pay for all those bottle deposits because at the time 2 liters were exempt from the deposit… so we simply made the switch to two liter bottles. We would still recycle the 2 liter bottles and any of the few other bottles or cans that we had. The 2 liter bottles are now a part of the deposit system and Saturday was the day we finally packed all those plastic bags into the van and down to the recycling truck. The truck has “reverse vending” machines. you put a bottle or can in and it gives you a ticket worth money. Our particular redemption center gives tickets for the Navy Exchange. (where we shop most often)

Here are Jordan and Jalen playing baseball on the wii. I love that there is a game they can play together! :)

Jalen and Jordan playing Wii Baseball My POTD for Saturday came from Jalen playing boxing on the Wii. He was so funny punching and playing so hard, he had a somewhat sweaty head when I came in to check on him. Here he is celebrating his victory!

Wii Nunchuck action
Sunday’s flowers in Church were these beautiful Proteas. I LOVE these. they are just so exotic and amazing looking.

ProteasProteasProteas Post Church Lunch routine calls for a trip to Chili’s. as we walked up to the restaurant, Jalen says, they painted the door. Now if a 7 year old notices the paint on the door, I guess we are there too often? I love Chili’s. Today we even splurged and all shared a Molten Lava Cake. Jordan even ordered it from the server! how funny is that?

And I also wanted to share my theory on servers. There are really only two kinds of servers.
1. Those who do it because they are good at it. (and therefore make a decent income out of it)
2. Those who couldn’t find anything else.

Today’s server was from the first category. She was our server last week Sunday and recognized us right off the bat. She was attentive and in tune to our needs. She picked up Jalen’s drink cup and he says, it wasn’t empty yet. I say, Jalen that is the sign of a good server, they can anticipate your needs before you even realize you need it! She remembered that I liked the small spoon for Jordan (not the huge soup spoon like last week). and her pleasant attitude. Just makes paying for a family meal out, so worth it. There is also another server there that we love on Sunday Lunch too. It really makes it a great time! Chili's Molten Lava even sweeter than the cake, Jordan calling my mom on his cell phone after we were done….

By the way, I was shocked that Southern California had Gas more expensive than Hawaii!

Here is the latest Concroption News: Guest Designer for May, the ever incredible Jamie Waters. I am so thrilled! I love her style, and I just can’t wait to see what she has in store! My Heidi Swapp Card should be in the Gallery under swatches at Concroption, and they are having a big sale- 40% off many items! Check it out! The site is under renovation, and I can’t wait to see what the new site will look like!

Making Memories feature is on Friday, I can’t wait!

I want to know, what’s your favorite drink? I love coffee, diet coke with lemon (or mixed with sierra mist free), cold water.

I hope you are all having great day! Thanks so much for your comments! :) Blog you later! :)

What a great post!!! It is so cool to see all those bottles actually being recycled…here recycling is a figment of everyones imagination….most of us try to be ‘green’ but in reality with all the corruption, the ‘recycling plants’ we started paying for in the form of a small tax at the supermarket 6 years ago, have never been built hahahahahahah! that’s Aaaarfrica for you. Politicians corrupt to the core!

I LOVE diet Pepsi (or coke depending who has stock on the shelves…yip the stores run out because the gas companies can’t produce CO2 with all our power cuts).. with lemon(also the 2liter variety), black coffee & water…SNAP we are the same!!!

Wheeeu! that dessert looks heavenly…& I guess completely diet free??? Why is it the fat free variety just doesn’t look as yummie?? If we come to visit you sometime in our lifetime…we SO want to go to chilli’s with you.

Beautiful pic’s of proteas….i luv them too. They grow wild all over the place here.
Isn’t it so cute when they ‘phone’ someone using a toy??? Max has ‘conversations’ like that with Cas….complete with pauses & expression….hilarious to listen to.
I suppose I better end my comment now, LOL! it is turning into a novel.
    Hugs to you guys!!

Gas here in Nawlin’s, LA is ranging from $3.40 to $3.50/gal.
Girl, your family would have been a “FAVE” customer of mine when I was waiting tables! I am sooooo a People Pleaser and all the “regulars” that came in appreciated the attentiveness I gave! I made some gooooood $$$$!
Even working in Cust Service, whenever someone would call, I would immediately recognize their voice and greet them personally! Believe me, it never went unnoticed! I’m sure you “tipped” your server well and will ask for her again! ;) That is so cool to get “deposits” back on 2 ltrs. We used to recycle ALL THE TIME, but since Hurricane Katrina, no more recycling available for household items! :(
It’s great to visit your post and I do on a weekly basis! Veronica

I love your picture-full blog! My favorite drink is Mountain Dew. My husband would say-see dentist bill, LOL, so I have to save it for a special treat and then brush my teeth afterwards. Ah, to be a kid again-with another set of teeth coming (it’s sick that I like it that much, isn’t it?)

Love all the pictures! Love my coffee too and Dr. Pepper!

    Hi Joscie!
I love all your pics! We have always recycled, but in WA that consisted of tossing all recycle in a can and the garbage company picks it up. They would give you @ $5 rebate on your bill every month. I am still not used to getting charged deposits when you buy drinks here. We put our recycle out on the curb here for a company to pick up, but I’ve seen other people in my neighborhood picking up our recycle. I told my son to start collecting our recycle (he is trying to earn money to go on a mission trip to Mexico).
Anyway, favorite all-time drink: diet Dr. Pepper!! I usually buy 2-liters, but I will drink it any way I can. I also like lemonade and tea (hot and cold); Regular, Kirkland brand green tea, Earl Grey and my new fav – Yerba Mate.
(Could this be a future LO idea??)
Can’t wait to see you featured with MM!

I finally looked at the gas station as I drove by today, $3.70 at the cheapie station for the unleaded. Washington is rumored to have some of the most expensive gas in the US because we have silly gas taxes that not all states have.
